    sfc scan problems 22H2

    Hi guys ,

Certain issues led to run the sfc scan , and problems there led me to run the DISM RestoreHealth scan with a brand new ISO / However my problem when running SFC still remain the .same .( integrity issues not fixed )I I did research the issue extensively before posting here as i have not had the best outcones when posting to support forums , but here I am . The best thread looking into this issue i found was dated 2021 and the issue there was not resolved . Im hoping something has changed in the last two years .The problem im having is the following from ythe CBS log files

Warning: Overlap: Directory \??\C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\en-US\ is owned twice or has its security set twice
    Original owner: Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Default-Security.Resources, version 10.0.19041.1, arch amd64, culture [l:5]'en-US', nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}
    New owner: Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Default-Security.Resources, version 10.0.19041.1, arch amd64, culture [l:5]'en-US', nonSxS, pkt {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}

is there a solution to this? , i have not reset the pc and quite frankly would prefer not to , but on previous read problems , it doesnt help in anycase

    Thank you kindly
    Jason

Hi, are you certain that particular warning is actually the cause of SFC reporting integrity violations? It is a commonly experienced warning and by itself seems insignificant.

    Compare:
sfc scannow warning log : is owned twice or has its security set twice | Sysnative Forums

Windows 10: Why Does CBS.log Say Directory Is Owned Twice or Has Its Security Set Twice? - Super User

These can be safely ignored as SFC reports the final result of the scan as 'no integrity violations found'.
I assume you're not seeing this last.. and if so, it seems unlikely what you cite is the cause, reading the above.

    Jason,

That report is not uncommon and is generally of no significance whatsoever.
A common example of what causes that report is
    - Folder ownership & permissions being set for the folder with separate entries setting exactly the same ownership & permissions for all its subfolders,
    compared to
    - Folder ownership & permissions being set for the folder & for all its subfolders.
Sometimes the SFC manifest has one version of how ownership & permissions should be set but the Windows updates that set up those folders-files had the other.
If that's all that SFC cannot repair then nothing's wrong at all.

If you have other irreparable errors reported by SFC then use Option 5 of the SFC tutorial to extract a list of errors from the CBS log, remove duplicate results lines manually if you've run SFC more than once so it's just left with the latest run's results & post the results file if you want comments about it.
    SFC - TenForumsTutorials
You have not said if you were connected to the internet when you ran the Dism command that's given in the notes at the end of the SFC tutorial's Option 3 for use if SFC reports irreparable errors.

    You have not explained
    "Certain issues"
    "problems there"

    All the best,
    Denis

thanks for that . the only error is the one i queried about . I resolved the other 2 different minor errors rather easily and only this one left which makes its appearance 6 times in the log file . The practical problem is that it is my sons laptop who is only by me on weekends etc . and prior to this now i would have him run SFC and if it was clean I would consider it at least good enough until it really needed my attention . its just a pity that there is no patch or anything that would ignore that specific issue and say all is fine . That error gives more non pc related headaches than anything else . in fact that is all it gives me as the pc runs exactly how it should

But thanks a lot for the replies , As a first time user I can immediately see the quality of the replies are far superior to some of the other supposed support forums ive queried at before , Thanks for that

Thanks; by way of a recommendation: when you have the laptop (unless you can get him to do it) start using 3rd party disk imaging of at least all Windows partitions and update that image e.g. weekly to a large enough external disk. Macrium Reflect is favoured by many here- there are others.

Start with a full image, and create a definition file (backup rules) for use next time as prompted.

Then after that you can create a differential image (faster, smaller file).

You can then restore the PC to as was when you created an image- e.g. should something really bad happen- covering even laptop theft (transfer to new laptop) or disk failure.

This procedure might well resolve the error.

always connected to the internet . that error will be there forever and a day . i thjnk because this was a windows seven originally , it could because of that . if you didnt run the sfc you wouldnt know there is a problem . Is annoying though because I generally often run SFC as general maintenance but obviously now its a pain because everytime you run it you need to look at log files just to be sure threre is no new issues

I don't get any SFC problems on a 2010 laptop I updated from Windows 7.

I have never failed to resolve SFC irreparable errors*** by running Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth whilst connected to the internet so I don't know what sort of problems might be involved.
But if, as I think, you just mean that one with the permissions mix-up then that is entirely an SFC manifest error and not something caused by your computer.
*** I've only had SFC irreparable errors once or maybe twice.

I run SFC every month as part of my pre-WU checking & backing-up routine.
I have a note in my Outlook Calendar to run SFC each month.

    I'll confess- I'm an ostrich-
    sfc scan problems 22H2-1.jpg

I never run SFC.. (if I did, there'd be one minor tweak I'd have to redo).

Sorry for the delay . Maybe ive gone off the deepend and forgotten things with age . Please tell me if im wrong . the only reason why you get integrity errors on SFC when there is nothing wrong ' is because the files that are been checked against is the ISO install that you used originally . So if that is the case , if the windows updates that have happened since the install , which do not update the ISO install at all , means once you change/update the ISO its checking the system files against , you will not get any integrity issues . Possibly something has changed but i definetly don't know if it has , and if it has changed there no mention of it anywhere i can find

I personally think MS support is bunch of idiots and quite frankly should be embarressed at the level of support they do offer , but the one thing they got right in my opinion , is the tools we got access to , to fix windows . The SFC is for me the best one out of the lot . .You fix the problem there and you never have to reset windows or any other drastic step . so in a nutshell , i use the SFC often . far more often than the DISM because the majority of times thats not where the problem lies But those tools are the most valuble to me that i have . I do realise that most people dont care for them but in my opinion , is because they dont actually know how to use them effectively . Since windows 10 was released it is the best tool ive ever used

But once again thank you kindly for all the effort you put in , really is much appreciated

    Thanks
    Jason
