How does enabling "Set metered Connection" in wifi affect Windows?

    Hi

I am using Home Edition, so the only way to disable Windows Update is enabling "Set Metered Connection" for my Wifi.

Windows documentation says this may negatively affect your apps.

I did a speed test in Edge, after enabling this feature. But I don't notice any speed decrease.
    1. Latency: 6.7ms
    2. Jitter: 1.9ms
    3. Download: 255 Mbps
    4. Upload: 219 Mbps

Have you noticed any thing bad with enabling "Set Metered Connection"?

Not true. There are others and have been for years. Have you considered the relevant tutorial from the huge searchable Tutorials section?

Why do you wish to disable it? You should not expect to receive anything major from MS now as Win 10 approaches end of life.

I don't want Windows Update to do it automatically. I want to manually Update when it is convenient for me.

Windows 10 Home-Edition will ignore your registry setting to disable automatic Windows Update.

It is a way not the only way.
It's the way I do it.
    I have found it reliable.
It only lets through the small & inconsequential PC health check app update [updated once or twice a year].
I set up metered connections by editing the Registry. This other post of mine explains why & how - latest metered connections ditty #24 - TenForums

It interferes with MSOffice Outlook 2016+ getting mail automatically [on a schedule].
It stops the useless list entries in Settings, Devices, Bluetooth from "completing" but I've never found any problems as a result and have no idea what it is that is incomplete {I have a vague idea that it's something to do with checking for updated icons}.
    - I have not tested to see if MSOffice updates are prevented from running automatically because I always do them manually anyway.
    - I have not tested to see if Edge updates are prevented from running automatically because I always do them manually anyway.
    - You'll have to use a script controlled by Task scheduler to update Defender if you have metered connections [unless you want to run Defender updates manually].

    Welcome to TenForums.

It's really worth making time to browse through the Tutorial index - there's a shortcut to it at the top of every page.
    - At the foot of the Tutorial index is a shortcut to download it as a spreadsheet.
    - I download a new copy each month.
    - By downloading it as a spreadsheet I can benefit from Excel's excellent filtering capabilities when I search for topics of interest.
    - Tutorials are also listed by category at Tutorials - there's also a shortcut to that at the top of every page.
    - Both tutorial lists are searchable.
    - You can also search for TenForumsTutorials in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com/tutorials after your search term. For example,
    taskbar toolbars site:tenforums.com/tutorials

You can search TenForums using the search box in the top-right corner of all TenForums webpages or using Advanced Search - TenForums
    - You can also search TenForums threads in many general search engines, such as Google, by adding site:tenforums.com after your search term. For example,
Search for drivers by HardwareID site:tenforums.com
    - [This is what the search box in the top-right corner of TenForums webpages does automatically]

And thank you very much for your reply.

Nothing new about that- the topic has been discussed so many times on tenforums, Feel free to search.

I used to do what you want with 'Sledgehammer' (free).

    See:

    Several different options.

    Also Wumgr has relevant options

Using CMD script and VBScript to control Windows Update
    - a tutorial submission- you can only see that if you have sufficient status on the forum.

FYI only: as I have Pro, I have a convenient option in Group Policy to set updates to 'Notify' - one Pro feature I like.
