The KB5027215 is giving users many problems. Check if your issue began after the installation.

I didn't know about this one - thanks for the heads-up

Two Wednesdays ago (I know it was then because the shop staff call Wednesdays "Weird Wednesday" due to the number of issues we seem to have on that day of the week) we had an issue with two of the computers taking a long time stuck on the "Cleaning up. Do Not Turn off Your Computer" screen. Now I know why that was, but unfortunately, this computer was not one of the two with the issue. Next time I go in I will check to see if KB5027215 is installed on the problem computer.

ETA: Dropped into work on the way home a this afternoon..

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>wmic qfe | find "5027215"

Yup, update KB5027215 is installed, and it didn't appear to cause any problems on this computer.

Step 1 - replace the HDDs with SSDs. Maybe even just 1 SSD for system, leave the other HDD, at a pinch

I wouldn't waste my time checking anything else until this is done

EDIT Oh yeh, and a clean install. Don't waste your time cloning or imaging a possible buggy system onto a new drive. Defeats the purose.
    1st point - yes 100%

    2nd point - absolutely not 0%.
This is only a last resort. Adding an ssd may solved issue - why put Op through hoops and loops until proved it is last option to try.

This machine has not faulted since I started this thread. Clearly it doesn't want to fault when anyone else it watching. I am beginning to wonder if it was an update issue that has been resolved by a succeeding update?

I will continue to monitor the situation for the next few weeks, and if I don't see the same behaviour again, I will come back and mark the thread solved.

Most probably yes. I have seen it too. One day you have a bug and then suddenly the bug is gone, probably due to an update replacing faulty system files or fixing some corrupt configuration.
