ok,
there was no log. so i did it again.
I hit y for the schedule on restart.
when I restart nothing happens. it just goes to my login screen.
Win 10 started to get very sluggish and takes a while to do anything

How much free space on C: ?
Try
chkdsk c: /scan
- this scans only, makes no corrections and the results are on screen.
Also run
Crystal Diskinfo (free) and post a screenshot of its GUI. Green is good. Do that for EACH disk in your PC.
Boot your PC, log in. Do not start any programs yourself. About 3 minutes after logging in, post a screenshot of your task manager showing any significant resource usage.

You can probably try something like Optimizer

or the system optimizer in software like the free version of Wise Care:

Next, you can try to update drivers using something like Snappy Driver Installer
Snappy Driver Installer - Install and Update Drivers for Free
and see if there are drivers that need updating, or do the reverse and install the ones that came from the manufacturer or from Windows. One of them might be the one for the graphics card.

Finally, if nothing else works, and you have a backup of the drive and decide to do a clean install, you can probably consider a repair upgrade first and retain all apps and data:

i have Revo uninstaller but also use it to clean up crap weekly
1st i go to tools-- browsers cleaner and clear everything
2nd i go to tools-- windows cleaner and clear everything
3rd i go to tools--junk files cleaner ,select the drives in upper right corner ,and scan (it takes forever), then delete everything.
look at my pc specs ,and mine is never sluggish
might be not 100% correct doing this ,but hey, it works for me
oh and about 1nce a month i'd run disk cleanup

Let's try a different standard check.
Create a new user for test purposes. (You can delete it afterwards).
Log in as that user.
Do you see the same problem?
Now return to the original user.
Try a clean boot (Google or see tutorial if unsure how).
Any change?
Have you ever changed your page file settings?
What security software are you running?

I have the same problem. It started with the latest June update. On running Task Manager (which can take nearly 5 minutes to load) I see my CPU is running at 100% most of the time due to Windows Defender. But there is no scan that appears to be ongoing.
I rolled back to my last image, which was taken in April and now everything works fine again. I did another update and the problem returned. So clearly there is an issue with this June update.

Ok,
This is really weird...
I was doing some research on trying to figure out why my laptop had gotten very slow and sluggish and it took a long time for anything to happen when I click on an icon...
I found something online where there was someone that had the same problem.
apparently, they uninstalled the latest June Windows update, and that solved the problem.
So I went into my updates history and was going to uninstall every update that was installed since May of 2023 which was before this started to happen so I could be sure that whatever caused this might be removed.
Going through the updates, I happened to notice an update to Ms office onenote that was installed in June. I removed one note a while ago and it should not have been updated, so I uninstalled it. I had to wait until it was done and then tried to do the same for the Windows updates, but it wouldn't let me until I rebooted the computer, so I did...
I rebooted the computer and when it came back, the problem seemed to disappear!
It was like my old laptop again, with no problems!
So I rebooted again just to make sure, and the computer seemed to be back to normal!
I clicked on an icon and it opened up with no hesitation!
I opened my browser and again, with no hesitation! I changed pages, with no hesitation!
I don't really know if uninstalling that update did the trick, but I am glad I did it.
We will see as we go on if the problem returns or if it stays the same.
I will update the post in a week or so and let you know.
Thank you again for everyone's help in trying to solve the problem.

For those with Pro - you can uninstall the update and set updates to Notify in Group Policy.
Those with Home will need to block it by other means. Tutorial available e.g.
