Defragment and optimize drives not running scheduled optimization

- I assume that the computer was ON at the set run time ?
- Have you looked in Event Viewer at around the run time to see if there were ANY errors reported ?
- What happens if you click Optimize or Change Settings ?

It is not set to run at any specific time. Windows makes the decision when & if to run it.
For example, it will only run when the computer is idle [by default] so if you don't leave it on when you're not using it it will never see an idle idle condition & will never run.

Defrag et al waste of time. Unnecessary, and possibly increase wear-and-tear with resultant lifetime decrease.

Optimise will only run defrag itself on an SSD monthly and then only if the user uses System restore [because it makes use of some of its mechanisms]. The tutorial contains a link to the main analysis of this topic [by Scott Hanselmann].
Trim, the other aspect of Optimise, has its own peculiarities.

Yes but Scott Hanselmann's analysis raises doubts about what Windows then does with SSDs.
Does it only defrag them monthly as it would if the task was set up by the Optimiser, assuming system restore points are in use?
How often does it actually trim?

Thanks Denis, I will investigate this again in the week as it has been quite a while since I initially researched it.

I used the following at the time > defrag > /o - Perform the proper optimization for each media type .

Yes, there is no such option.
You could set up your own Task scheduler task instead of using the Optimiser if you wanted. You could copy your task definition from that of the task that Optimiser uses in Task scheduler.

That's what I did. I run mine at 0900 Mondays and I do not let it hold off waiting for the computer to be idle [I don't notice any drop in performance while it's running & it's over with very quickly].

Yes. But as Scott Hanselmann found, it will also defrag an SSD each month if the user has automatic restore points set up. I don't so mine just trims.

It is possible to monitor these actions in Event viewer, if you are interested.
