Over time, my Win startup time seems to be getting longer. (I'm being really picky) I have always used the Win 10 Task manager to disable all unnecessary startup programs. However, there are many processes that also start at boot time.

I installed HiBit to see if I could find what might be delaying boot up. It looks pretty comprehensive but it doesn't give me what I was looking for.

My memory is a little foggy but I seem to remember a program that could be run at boot time that produced a list of all start up programs and services and the time it took to load these services. However, I can't find such a program now. Does anyone know of such a program?

run startuptimer.com and it gives a few clues some of the other timers do as well.

check your task scheduler/ taskschd.msc and see if there are a bunch of third party apps/programs running tasks at startup also look in your services.msc for third party programs running automatically.

Don't forget post #6, disk cleanup. It has been demonstrated to have a big effect on startup time.

    Thank you for the suggestion.

I regularly clean out the Windows temp file but I ran the disk cleanup program anyway. I didn't see any significant difference in boot time.

Thank you for the suggestion. "startuptimer.com" isn't exactly what I remember but it is close. It identified MS Edge preloading as the largest delay. I don't use Edge so I've stopped the Edge preload and it shaved a couple of seconds off the boot time. (Interestingly, I don't notice that Edge loads much slower without the preload.)

I also checked "taskschd.msc" and disabled a couple of items that I don't need but I didn't see a noticeable reduction in boot time.

Previously, I examined the results of "autoruns" and disabled several services. That reduced boot time by a few seconds.

Overall, I have a minor but noticeable reduction in boot time.

I guess that I'm very picky and spoiled by the performance of my laptop. The laptop boots more than twice as fast as the desktop but it has newer technology and less software clutter. (In case anyone is tempted to suggest... both units have SSDs)

Anyway, I'm going to continue to look at the "autoruns" data to see if further improvements can be made.

A huge thank you to everyone who made suggestions. They were all very helpful. You guys are stars!!!!

There isn't much difference between my older ( 3rd gen ) and more recent gigabyte mobos in post time. It might be partly the asus mobo as they are notoriously long posting as well as perhaps loading the graphics card and mechanical disk and other peripherals.

There are a few out there to measure.
I use the free Autorun Organizer [V5.30] by ChemTable Soft which allows you to selectively turn on/off and also keeps a history and allow you to delay apps startups that re not immediately required.

delay the start up of which app?
Autorun Organizer [V5.30] by ChemTable Soft also allows you to set delays when apps should startup/load

From your reply I concluded you did not look into AutoRun organizer, downloaded it and understand its functions.
This is not an app that runs per se. It is a monitoring and configuration app that gives you oversight over startup control, time measurements and delays if desired.
This is my last reply on the subject.

It is total crap. I am well versed with it. it only adds to the bloat. everything it does you can easily do yourself
