QuickTIme is an Apple product that plays .mov files, still available for download at
    QuickTime 7.6 for Windows
I have the paid-for version from some time ago when I had a MacBook Pro, now have the Windows version on Win10 and Win11.
VLC can play .mov files, shows a Convert and choices, tried converting a .mov to .mp4 but appears it didn't work.
A little more work on the .mov file in QT shows it can be Exported to other formats but it's slow.

Update: a 9.1MB .mov movie Exported in QT to a 7.0MB .mp4, seems to be okay.
