Pressing windows key straight after login causes explorer crash

Pressing the windows key straight after login (repeatedly or once), causes Windows Explorer (explorer.exe) to crash.

To avoid the crash, I have to wait a few seconds for the taskbar to finish loading, before pressing the windows key. And my laptop has been wiped out and with windows reinstalled.

    I'm using Windows 10 22H2

Here's the only software I have installed.

Start-->RUN (type: Control Folder)-->Clear File Explorer history under General tab.

Also try High Performance Power Plan.
Sorry, you need an extra s.
Start-->RUN (type: Control Folders)-->Clear File Explorer history under General tab.

Also check ON "Launch folder windows in a separate process"

I've tried all that and it still doesn't help.
Well not the power plan stuff as the High Performance plan doesn't exist for me. There is only balanced.

I told my doctor, "Doc, it hurts when I do this."
Doc replied, "Then don't do that."

    Comodo Internet Security
    Mirekusoft Install Monitor
    IOBit Uninstaller
    IOBit Driver Booster
    Driver Easy
    - of those, there are 3 I wouldn't use.

First. the routine and regular use of driver updater tools has been discussed at length here a number of times- in particular the risks and disadvantages.

Second, I've seen cases where Comodo - or remnants of it- has interfered with Win 10 upgrades.

Whether they have anything to do with what you report- well, that's another matter.

Want to know exactly what happens? Try the huge log file created by Procmon (process monitor) - free from MS.
You can also have a look at Reliability History, but it probably won't help you find out what causes the crash.

You can of course try this after a clean boot and in Safe Mode for comparison.

    Des,

Uninstall the lot, run the Comodo removal tool if their website provides one and then see if the problem still happens.

You might also try it in Safe mode.
You might also find out if the same happens for another user.

    Best of luck,

It turns out that you're absolutely right there.

I've just done a "reset this pc", to wipe out my computer then reinstall windows, to then use process of elimination of what was causing this minor performance issue, in case it was possibly symptomatic of anything greater in an underlying way.
However upon doing so, I've found that the issue STILL existed with all the drivers set back to normal along with no third party software installed (well at least by me).

So I suppose this minor glitch is built into Windows 10 22H2, so I'll just have to wait for the taskbar (or windows explorer) to finish loading, after entering my windows password to reach the desktop. It could be a minor quirk of my drivers being best optimised for Windows 10 1909 rather than Windows 10 22H2

    Thank you for your help.
