    understanding prefetch and sysmain

    Good day.

I am using Win 10 on an SSD with both prefetch and sysmain enabled, and yet, when launched for the first time, programs always take between 3 and 7 seconds to open. I was wondering if someone could clarify if the effects of prefetch and sysmain are noticeable only after the second time programs are launched (when they open almost instantaneously) during a session until shutdown but a program cannot be expected to open immediately the first time it is launched the next session, even if there is a corresponding .pf file in the Prefetch folder. Thank you for your attention.

    Interesting question

If you dont need it, this is what i did.

I removed SYSTEM from the permissions of the Public folder. Deleted the prefetch, rebooted and removed the 214 .pf files i had, down to 12. All my programs loaded quick then.

I have found out that even on a SSD, disabling Superfetch will make things slower, but some small apps tend to load slower with Prefetch.
