The internet icon that looks like a monitor is for Ethernet.
The one that looks like ripples in a pond is for WiFi.




When the internet icon looks like a black and white world globe.... you have NO internet.

what is a mobile hotspot versus wi fi

It gets changed back by changing your connection type. Windows automatically detects what type of connection and displays the appropriate icon.

Ethernet (wired connection) > a "monitor"-look alike style symbol
or
Hot Spot (mobile or other) / WiFi / Wireless Dongle > all the same, vertical eminating waves symbol
