    Norton Scan advises Registry requires numerous fixes

    Windows 10 Pro, Ver. 21H2 (OS Build 19044.1826)

    Howdy Folks
    A Norton scan shows various Registry errors and apparently would like to fix these for me. (attached)
    I suspect: 1. Norton wants an excuse to charge me more, and 2. There's probably a better way to do this on my own, including doing nothing.

    TIA to all who read this post and to those with suggestions, comments/advice!

    I wouldn't put a lot of stock in what Norton has to say, but that's just me.

    I have a thing with registry cleaning. My thought about it is that if Windows is not broken and is running fine then don't touch the registry. Registry cleaners often cause more problems than they are worth.

    If you do decide to use one, I would recommend a full image backup before you use it. That way you can restore if the cleaner really messes something up.

    My installation of Windows 10 has run flawlessly for years, and I credit that to never using tweaker or registry cleaning programs.

    Bottom line is if you cannot inspect and understand a list of what it's going to remove then just use Windows cleanup tools.

    Or if cleaning registry and if you know what you are doing only go ahead if you have a system image backup/ restore utility that can restore from external drive if windows fails to boot.

    @Catnip, @callender
    Thanks to both of you; just wanted to check my decision to "sit tight".

    Yes, I run external primary images weekly along with full/differential backups of my data drive weekly, while "save to" a flash drive along with every "save" of all important files.

    Hello @jdUnionngarden,

    To be honest, there is NO real benefit in removing Registry Keys / Entries as far as performance is concerned. If however, you are having problems, then this might be one course of action to pursue, obviously either backing up the Registry, or creating a System Image FIRST, preferably BOTH.

    I hope this helps.
