    Memory Diagnostic failure

    Good day

I have a computer that is running Windows 8.1.

Yesterday the computer all of a sudden slowed down to an unusable speed. I managed to start the memory diagnostic test as per suggestions in articles I found on the problem. This has caused the computer to go into a nonstop loop of searching for a problem and then trying to fix it, each time it takes about an hour and a half. Then the computer restarts and the process starts all over again.

By pressing F1 I managed to get into a troubleshooting menu with options to either reset, restore or go back to Windows. The restore and reset options both give me this error: "Insert your Windows installation or recovery media to continue". The only option that is given is to cancel. The go back to Windows make the diagnostic loop start all over.

I have tried the advance options as well, all take me back to the error mentioned above.

I am now unable to get into that PC at all.

Any assistance would be much appreciated.

    Thank you

    Anna

@AnnaR, your Win8.1 is still supported until January but Win10 is until Oct. 2025. As far as I know the Upgrade to Win10 is still free. I have a client still running Win8.1 who hasn't decided which way to go yet.

Also of consideration, your machine probably doesn't meet the hardware requirements for Win11, none of mine do so I had to get a new one that does.

Might not be the memory which tends to cause crashes if at fault. Suggest you remove the laptop battery for a couple of minutes and / or try to boot into safe mode.
