Statement from Dell on Intel DPTF:
Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (IDPTF) is a power and thermal management solution. It is used to resolve fan noise, overheating, and performance- related

Outside chance its a CPU overheating problem. We have seen, on the Dell support forums, of the CPU thermal paste being compromised and needing new thermal paste.

Again, what is the exact model number?

Although Support Assist has been known to cause problems, its needed if you want to use it to check for Dell drivers (use Dell drivers as they are many times customized for all the Dell proprietary hardware). But only manually download and update any BIOS update, Support Assist is not recommended for BIOS. Support Assist is also hooked into the POST (Power On Self Test) and diagnostics so don't totally remove it.

I can't link you to the Dell downloads/support page as the specific model number is needed. There are probably 100 different 5000 series models.
I found Dell Data Vault still in Device Manager and its driver loaded despite uninstalling Dell programs. I've now uninstalled that from DM with the driver.

OK. I have one of similar vintage, a 5777.

Considering these are 2017 models, the CPU thermal paste could very well be an issue.

I get a BSOD and a dump file. Doesn't thermal overload cause a more sudden shutdown?

It is not Dell or Intel Smart Connect (it is at the end of its life) that must be uninstalled, but Dell SmartByte. At dell, it's the leader of bloatware , I uninstalled it as soon as I got my dell.
Description: "This package contains the SmartByte application. SmartByte is an application that stabilizes the quality and performance of video streaming, downloads, and browsing by prioritizing network packets.". No need for an internet connection stabilizer. It is an application and a driver.

I only have dell update, dell power manager service and supportassist.
Supportassist not long ago after an update when I was doing a hardware test from the application I had a bsod. I deleted everything in the control panel which corresponded to supportassist (the plugin too) and I reinstalled it that fixed the bsod.

    1. Monitor the CPU temps. The thermal paste possibility is something to seriously consider. It could heat to the point CPU is slowing down. This is a 5 year old laptop; average laptop life is 3 years.

    2. Smartbyte was trash. Caused slowdowns in connection speed. There was a later version that fixed the speed problems, as noted not really needed.

Uninstalling Support Assist with the Windows uninstaller does not remove everything. Need a program such Revo Uninstaller Pro.

We found that out about a year ago. There was a Microsoft Win 10 update that caused Support Assist to report false memory problem at POST. It affected several Alienware laptop models and the Inspiron 15 Gaming 5577 (what I have). We found uninstalling Support Assist removed the false POST alert, but uninstalling via Windows uninstaller did not remove the module that was causing the POST error. Removing with Revo Uninstaller (and registry scan/removal) did remove the POST module. I was the Dell forum "Rockstar' contact for the problem and coordinated with our Dell interface until a new Support Assist was issued that corrected the problem.

Have you tried making a full backup, then deleting the Windows partitions, and doing a clean install?
We all know there ARE things an In-Place Upgrade.... won't fix.
If that works, then you know it was a software issue. If it doesn't work, then you have a hardware issue.

Any DELL specific things to worry about... I have no idea.
