does torrenting on my main PC the reason why its so sluggish?

I have 400+ torrenting seeding and downloading on my computer, but over the past year it has become agonizingly sluggish.

My OS is on an SSD, and the torrents are stored on a HDD along with, My Documents, Music, Pictures, etc are also stored on this HDD.

what are my options to remedy this?

the pc is an older build, but when I switch over to linux, everything is smooth and snappy.

    Hi,

Make sure you do not seed over the capacity of your machine, or your bandwidth.

Things are still sluggish even when the program isnt running.

    Ok,

Then your question is not really related... To your torrent server...

Start by trying to find where the bottle neck occurs in your system.

Does Task Manager show any significant unexpected CPU or HDD use?

You're seeding 400+ torrents and yet Task Manager doesn't show your file i/o as totally swamped (when torrent client docs usually advise a max of ~20-30 torrents at a time)???

Or you are now a known torrent peer and your ISP now limits your uploads at peak times?

I have a few more tabs open... doesn't appear to slow my browsing.

    My option would be ...

back up personal data, all torrent files (downloads and torrent files)

backup up torrent file program settings (which torrent program? - settings are usually .ini files)**

image (not clone) the existing SSD (Macrium Reflect freeware)

swap out the existing SSD for a new blank one

    disconnect the HDD

    install Win 10

    re-connect HDD

reinstall torrent software and re-instate torrent settings

re-setup the default locations for personal folders (Documents. Pictures etc) to HDD

    test internet speeds

**reconnecting to previous torrents/settings can be problematic. Took me several goes with Win re-installs before I got the old settings to kick in. Couple of times had to restart downloading all torrents all over again
