Windows 10 Slow Restart and Shutdown

Hello!



I recently noticed that my PC takes a long time to restart OR shutdown.

Booting it up after shutdown is really fast, around 15 seconds. But, when I restart or shutdown the PC it takes around 3-4 minutes. During the process, the blue screen with the spinning circle is visible.



I am not exactly sure when this started happening, but I used to be able to restart my PC in well under a minute, boot included.

I have tried system restore, disabling fast boot (it was disabled to begin with, but I tried enable-restart-disable-restart), disabling startup items and services... No success.

I also checked the event log, especially for 103 and 203 errors and warnings and found none.



I'm on Windows 10 Pro 21H2 build 19044.1766

You mentioned Startup items. As a start, to see what you currently have, Copy & Paste the following into a CMD Prompt and press Enter . . .

PowerShell "Get-CimInstance Win32_StartupCommand | Select-Object Name, User, Location, Command | Sort-Object -Property Name, User | Format-Table -Autosize | Out-String -Width 1000" > %UserProfile%\Desktop\StartupItems.log

It will output a StartupItems.log file on the Desktop.

If you have a Relocated Desktop then change the output path accordingly.

To see what Services you currently have running, Copy & Paste the following into a CMD Prompt and press Enter . . .

Hopefully the above output/data may possibly shed some light on the problem!

Also, there are many threads about this on the Forum if you perform a search, they may well help you get to the bottom of it.

Additionally, the AV [ NOT mentioned in your System Specs ] could have an impact depending on what processes it performs on Restart.

• How much FREE Space do you have?
• Have you run sfc /scannow?
• Have you run Windows Update?
• Have you checked for a BIOS update?

Reading your request, I personally remembered what time I had the same problem, in my case I suspect that it was caused by a debloat program "working online", made by a "digital guru" ..a questionable program.
In any case, the solution was to restore a value in the register that had been activated and that forced the system to "empty the page" before being able to close.
A solution is creating a .reg file with the following strings:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management]
"ClearPageFileAtShutdown"=dword:00000000

Started the file, confirmed, and restarted "forced" the PC, at the next restart the PC had resumed regular shutdown.

I can still make mistakes, in the sense, that the problem cannot be identical of my.
