Improving Peformance on Older AMD A6 3620 System Suggestions?

    Hello All

If i was to find my old AMD FX 8310 system that i believe had DDR3 Memory, would that work in the AMD A6 3620 System to increase its Ram from 8GB single channel to Dual Channel? ((keep in mind AMD FX 8310 system hasn't been used since September 2017 when i switched to Intel based Desktop for my Gaming Desktop.

Should've probably given that one to Mom at that time, and replaced her AMD A6 3620 system doh, think i removed some parts from that old AMD FX 8310 back then that i wanted on Desktop though, namely the boot ssd, and storage drive lol.

Software wise clean install of Windows 10 not too long ago on a Toshiba 1TB hard drive, Updates are installed Monthly, Startup item are bare minimum on that system.

Any advice is appreciated though, if not gonna start saving to replace Moms computer with Intel based one i believe or maybe another AMD based

    Not sure what you're asking.
If you are asking if an Fx 8310 will go into an A6 3620 motherboard... the answer is no. They have different sockets.

If you're asking which one is faster... the FX 8310 will be faster, but you will need to use a discreet video card with the FX 8310.

I know there different sockets, was thinking of maybe swapping the memory sticks if compatible with the AMD A6 3620's motherboard as long as there both DDR3 which i think they are, i'll have to confirm that when i dig out that older machine to make sure

Meanwhile gonna clean up some programs, and startup items, and do as much software wise as can for now

Yes... they are both DDR3 and will physically fit the same slots if they are both desktops.
You shouldn't mix and match RAM. And there is the off chance that due to the timings or frequencies, they might not be... swappable. You can try... it won't hurt anything to try.

I can tell you this... either of those systems is about 10 years out of date... for either AMD or Intel... these days.

I think your best option, would be to sell both of them, and just buy a new desktop or laptop for your mom.

That's assuming you want your mom to still like you.

Think if i remembered right the 8310 system had a matching set for Ram sticks--but for now will finish the software maintenance, and go from there. Yes i know both older systems 10 years outta date, soon as can afford it, replacing Moms Desktop system entirely

Doubt local PC shop would offer anything for trade for both of those systems lol, but won't hurt to try i suppose.

I guess the cheapest solution would be to just get a new motherboard, CPU and RAM, and use that in one of the computers. Like... save and reuse the drives, the case, power supply, monitors, vid card... etc.

Something like this. (You'll need to check to see what "size" motherboard will fit the case).

    PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 5 5600G - PCPartPicker

The one I picked in the above example is ATX size.
The ones you currently have should be either ATX, MiniITX or MicroATX

Older AMD A6 3620 is in a HP Case currently, and older AMD FX 8310 was in an Asus M32BC Case (prebuilts many years ago) But yes acquiring case, motherboard, processor and ram, and reusing drives, and such probably will be the cheapest.

As long as CPU installs properly and cooler

Unlike when i tried to upgrade my Intel 10700 Cooler myself and messed up, the backplate thing that secured the mounting brackets to the backplate, one of the studs got stuck to it, and couldn't get it undone at all. So took PC to shop, which they stated the Be Quiet Pure Rock 2 wouldn't ideally fit in Thermaltake v200 TG RGb, so ended up purchasing Arctic 7 Freezer X they had in stock for my Intel 10700 processor--is cooling better than it used to though

Here... is the same build above with case and power supply added. The vid card is built into the CPU like the A6 3620, only way more powerful...

PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, Corsair 100R ATX Mid Tower - PCPartPicker

Just add your drives and your monitor(s)... and your all done.
The CPU even comes with it's own cooler.
