Task Mngr Disk Performance@100% but Task Mngr Processes Disk@17-20%

    Hey all, feeling defeated,

Below is what I have done and what I have left to check off. I was wondering if anyone had any other ideas of why the C:/ is running at 100% all the time but nothing is really running.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Issue Reported: PC take a long time for everything to load after starting the PC from cold boot Mondays. It's getting slower each week. (PC is shut down on Friday and booted on Monday)

    My Observations

Though file explorer says it's at 100% on the performance tab the process tab only shows 20%-ish of the disk is being used.

The pic attached had these running. dism /online /cleanup-image /restore health, ESET full PC scan, and Rebuilding the Windows Search index are running at this time) but this is how it always looks when doing anything on the PC these days.

    Tried so far

Uninstalled it and re-installed ESET (A/V)

    Disable ESET Temporarily (A/V)

Made sure ESET HIPS "Logging of all Blocked Operations" was off (A/V)

    Disabled Windows search

    Disabled superfetch/sysmain

Windows was up to date on 4-18-22, it was what I pushed out/had ready to install that night.

    SFC came back good

No scheduled maintenance scripts or backups running on Monday's cold startup due to missed schedule. They ran when and as they should have.

    CHKDSK was good

    CrystalDisk was good

    Cleared TMP folder

Changed power plan to high performance

Reliability monitor didn’t show much error wise

Speccy HDD Temp looked and reported good (sorry for bad snap)

Flash was installed but not removed and now it is. 4-19-22

Made sure the page file was automatically managed

    Rebuilt the Windows Search index

Made sure Edge and Chrome are note running in the background even when closed and turned off hardware accelerator on both.

    ResourceMon log attached

The C is not full 89BG free of 297GB.

    Reliability monitor errors are attached

No new errors since 4-18-22. I have re-installed Edge since then, not sure what caused the search error, but it has not happened since

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    To Try

Ran disk need to check results

Ran ESET need to check results

Rebuilding file indexing - see if its better?

    Restart tonight and run procmon

    Boot into Safe Mode

I have disabled win RM and it helped for a little, but disk usage ramped back up again, needs reenabled.

    Hi Andre,

    I'll try that tonight!

    General update:

DISM finished yesterday and fixed issues, ESET finished around 12am this morning and was all clear. Still need to restart and run ProcMon tonight after they leave.

The PC uses SCSI...so does not apply here.

Think this is your problem. SATA drive is recognized as SCSI... or is it really SCSI?

Oddly, this is how it should be and others like its model from Dell. I'll close this for now as it's slated for an upgrade, and I'll just nuke and pave it and see how it handles it after the re-install.

Thanks for the advice. I made a note of that SATA reg edit.
