    Slow Laptop/Freshly Restored

I have a windows 10 home laptop that I replaced the hard drive and doubled the memory. I freshly installed Windows 10 and completely updated via windows update, however it's so slow to do anything. I just want to be able to use the laptop for basic needs but it's slower than a snail. Even just opening Google Chrome takes forever but once it's open it's fine.

This used to be a good laptop with switchable graphic cards (used to game a little) and I thought freshly installing the OS would make it run like new (like cleaning everything out and only installing basic things like google chrome)

Is there anything else I can do to speed up the laptop. I'm not sure what else I can possibly do to a freshly reinstalled OS.

    Windows Version 20H2 (OS Build 19042. 1503)

    Hello Arily,
What did you replace the HDD with?

Run Crystal Disk Info to check drive health.

Run SFC Command in Windows 10

Check Windows Reliability History and Windows Event Viewer for clues around boot time

What happens if you try to boot to Safe Mode or Clean Boot (tutorials available)

Try disabling non-Windows apps from Task Manager - Startup tab that you don't need to start immediately.

Since I had identical laptops and the keyboard went out on one and HDD out on the other I moved the identical matching HDD to the computer with the working keyboard and also took the memory from the non-keyboard working computer and doubled up the memory in the now working computer. (hope that makes sense lol)
Running the SFC Scan right now.
Not sure what to disable in task manager>startup it's just HP stuff because it's an HP computer. Here is a screenshot of my startup.

You can safely disable the HP and Radeon four items for testing.

Another thing to do is run "chkdsk c: /scan /perf" to check your HDD for issues.

Also check the Windows Search Settings - is the indexer running and still indexing files.

We would recommend here to replace the HDD with a SSD as they are about 5x faster and pretty much required on Windows 10/11 - otherwise you will experience frequent 100% disk usage during booting, apps loading, Windows Updates installing, virus scans, etc - have you checked Task Manager for that?

Well, I've made a lot of suggestions, so please provide more results when possible.

Ok quick update, though I'm not finished. The SFC Scan was stuck on 13% verification so I downloaded and ran SFCFix

AutoAnalysis::SUMMARY: No corruptions were detected.AutoAnalysis:: directive completed successfully.Successfully processed all directives.

I ran SFC Scan a second time

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

I checked the Indexing Files and it said it was complete.

EDIT: from chkdsk: Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.

    Ran Crystal Disk Info

and chkdsk said this: Windows has scanned the file system and found no problems. No further action is required.

Going to restart comp since I changed startup in task manager. Was there anything else I needed to do?

Also I didn't really want to invest any additional money into getting the laptop to run more snappier or else I'd consider investing in an SDD. Also I don't know if I'd be able to to use an SDD in place of an HDD...would the connection cable into the motherboard be the same cable and would my motherboard be compatible?

HDD can be easily cloned to the SSD. People do it all the time.

Update after you reboot. Everything seems fine so far.

Rebooted the computer. It seemed to come up a smidge faster so I'm happy about that.

So could you please inform me...With SSD does it plug into the same cable connection as the HDD, and how can I be sure it will be compatible with my current motherboard?
