fan and cpu running all day long

My computer fan has been running all day long. The cpu on the task manager says 40-90% up and down. Mostly in 40s. Last time this happened a few months back, the fan needed cleaning. It hasn't gone on like this since. Now what. I'm hoping the computer is just working hard because of some big update. The hissing us so annoying. Sheesh. May have to take it in again. Pretty sure my stats say what I have.

    Might be an update.
We are on xxxxx.1387 now. I believe it was released Nov. 22nd.

Could also be dust. Places like Amazon, Best Buy, etc., sell cans of compressed air for blowing the dust out.
You can also use an oil-less compressor at fairly low lb/sq. inch. Say 45-50 lb/sq. inch

Thanks, Ghot. Miraculously, it finally settled down. Must've gone on 4-5 hours nonstop. I been hounded by tech issues on a few devices lately, so my nerves are frayed. I have a note to myself from long ago that updates occur 2nd Tuesday of each month. This is a Tuesday at least so perhaps. Not sure exactly where to look, but control updates says last one was 11/12. Whatever was going on, hallelujah it stopped.

The regular MS Tuesday update was the 9th of November. Then we had a "preview" update on the 22nd.

The updates and the dates are always posted here... https://www.tenforums.com/windows-10-news/

They ofc may hit your computer on those days or within a few days.

    Fan running ad nauseum

My computer is back to the fan running, the bottom hot and the cpu percent at 40. Five hours 12/27. Today ran for half hour then a couple hours later it ran for 3 hours. I had to turn it off. It's like listening to cats hissing nonstop. I turned it back on and for the moment it's ok. Under "view installed updates" the last date entered is 12/17 security update. OS build = 19043.1415.

I use the computer mostly to search the internet. Read papers. Listen to youtube. Not a gamer. Doesn't seem to matter one way or the other what I'm doing or for how long. My use is fairly consistent. Many Evenings I watch Netflix. Again, the time this fan business occurs seems random.

I'm going to take it in to IT again. They'll probably just "clear" excess stuff. I'm going to look for a new computer. I love this one. Don't want anything fancy. Will keep this for back up. I think my profile shows what I have, in case anyone wants to comment, make recommendations on what I should get comparable. Hoping I don't have to go to Windows 11. Not a quick learner.

The place that replaced my harddrive with an SSD a few years ago said it won''t last as long but is faster. Maybe that's the problem. I need a new SSD drive.

    @RLAR

As I mentioned before... it could also be dust. It could even be an infection.
I can't find the ASUS q524UQK listed anywhere. I can find parts for it, but that's all.

It would help if you'd post a Speccy screen shot... get the free version, here... Speccy - Free Download

This is what it will look like...

IF, you are looking for another ASUS 2 in 1... they have many different versions...

Task manager (and then Resource Monitor) would show what the CPU is doing - or give a clue.

HI Ghot. I had the fan cleaned the first time around. It was filthy and had a sticker stuck to it. According to my posts, that was about 3 month ago. Then the first of December I see I posted again griping about the noise. Now a few weeks later, well you know.

I might have IT person run that Specy thing.

I remember looking at the CPU items, but forget what it said. Right now at 4% it mentions Chrome and Task Manager first, then antimalware service executable, systems interrupts, desktop windows manager. Memory is kinda similar.

Thanks all for the links to computer options.
