Your motherboard supports 1 x M.2 Socket 3 with M Key, type 2260/2280 storage devices support (supports PCIE SSD only).

So yes, that M.2 will work on your motherboard.

That motherboard supports a max bandwidth of PCIe Gen 2. A Gen 3 drive will work just fine, but you won't get the full speed potential that the drive offers. I believe that you get a max of 2 lanes...so around 1,000MB/sec.

Technically yes, it would be faster than a standard SSD. But whether you would really notice that difference in the real world is another story.

Will this be a secondary drive on your system? The reason that I ask is that I don't think on this motherboard that you can boot from the NVMe drive in the m.2 slot.

I had a A-Z97A MB with a 2.5" SSD. I´m quite sure that, with the latest BIOS, it could boot from the a NVMe on M.2.
As pparks1 mentioned, don´t expect a great upgrade. You may only see the difference to a 2.5" SSD on the benchmark test.

Yep, i just took some games off my rapidly filling up 2TB WD SN850 NVMe, which does 7,000MB/s over to a cheap 2.5" Sandisk Ultra 2TB SATA drive that maxes out at ~500MB/sec and load times for call of duty, halo, flight simulator are all within about 1.5 seconds. So, it's like 13.5 seconds instead of 12 seconds for my load times. Certainly not 14x faster as raw numbers might suggest. Much rather save my expensive super fast space for my VM's and such that benefit more with the raw speed increases.
