Cleaning and removing C:/ drive slows down the opening of Libre Calc

If not the right place, please direct.
I deleted, cleaned, and moved to open up space on the Windows 10 20H2 C:/ drive. Then I uninstalled an older LibreOffice and installed 7.2.2.2 It now requires nearly 30 seconds to open Libre Calc. So far other documents open normally.
I want to use Calc and Microsoft Word. I don’t want to use Writer or Microsoft Excel.
I get the “default file formats not registered” error.
Default files are registered .ods with Libre Office and docx at Microsoft Word, but that does not help.
I will greatly appreciate advice. Thank you.

I have LO 7.2.0.4 installed, 0pening Calc took about 6 seconds. I am now downloading 7.2.2. Have you tried reinstalling?
Download LibreOffice | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Based on OpenOffice - Compatible with Microsoft
Sometimes LO offered a 'test' version but usually was a note about being for power users who wanted the latest.

Hello gwatts and welcome to TF ,

Start by running sfc and dism if necessary: Run SFC Command in Windows 10

Also run chkdsk c: /scan from an admin powershell.

My Calc opens fine running the same version as yours.

The error is not an error - just telling you about extensions than Libre Office can open that available to be registered to it. You can either uncheck the checkbox or follow the prompts to change the unregistered extensions to be opened by LO.

Thank you Gurus. 7.2.0.4 did not work. I'll proceed with the scans.

Please ignore the image, the wrong image attached and I am not able to remove it.

No joy so far. Neither sfc, dism or chkdsk helped.

I then installed the 3rd version of LibreOfice but no change.
After clicking any Calc it takes 37 seconds before opening properly.

LibreWriter, Word and everything else open normally.

If I just live with it or install a previous image, I’ll still have to free up space on the C drive and I am likely to screw it up again.

I haven’t been to the Libre forums yet because the problem seems it has to be in Windows since it occurred immediately after I freed up space.

Thank you. I appreciate the help.

After Calc is opened then closed and reopened is that still slow? A number of programs will be slower opening after a restart or cold start of the computer the first time but be faster succeeding times. Sometimes the file size can make a timing difference.

As for the image, click Edit at the bottom of your post, then click Go Advanced. scroll down until you see Attachments then click Manage attachments, can delete there and import new or different ones.

    I use OpenOffice Calc. Windows 10 21H2

6 sec first opening of Calc, < 1 sec for subsequent openings. That is on a Laptop type 5400 rpm HDD.

That leads to some "cleaner"/"Speedup" application deleting Prefetch/Super Prefetch files. Slowing up first and probably subsequent openings of Calc.

If you have an application of that sort either uninstall it or configure it.

I would also look at your system mod of an old style Start menu.
You can always put this stuff back, but for testing purposes there maybe some conflict.

Windows itself regenerates these Prefetch/Super Prefetch files, so they do not need to be messed around with. They are specifically there to speed up the starting of applications, useful on a mechanical HDD.

This is basically an addition to that in post #3.

    Hi, gwatts
Same slowing down with all LibreOffice programs happened to me months ago. I know, this probably is not the case, but it turned to have something to do with the printer driver. Even I had such a driver from Windows Update, I installed the optional one from the same place and since that, the programs are fast when I open them.
Hope this can help you, if you need further assistance in this matter, please let me know.
