    Windows is Loading Unusually Slowly

Recently Windows is taking 4 or 5 times longer to load. Using a Dell XPS 8930 with the latest Windows Update. Both drives are SSD. I disabled all unnecessary startup items but that is not making a difference. The bios time bootup is at 28 seconds...then going into Windows takes a couple of minutes. It usually takes about 30 seconds. What could be causing this?

    Thanks

Do you have any External drives plugged in? The BIOS may be enumerating them/looking for bootable files. Then Windows has to check to see which to boot to.

Yes...2 of them. I also did a dism-sfc and found corrupted files that were repaired. Meanwhile...how do I stop the bios from over-checking these drives?

Unplug them while the computer is shut down then boot to see if the speed is restored. I've seen the issue when plugging drives I've salvaged into a USB Drive Dock then booting, now my process is to plug the drives in after Windows is running.

    Hi,

If you bios apparently hangs more than supposed. Start by verifying your connected Storage solutions, Unplug them all, If you are left only with your boot drive and Enabled Optane acceleration. Make sure you have the latest bios and latest intel rapid drivers.

USB HDDs always makes POST and Boot slower. Failing SATA drives even more.

Then if things comes back, start testing your storage one by one to find the culprit. then thoroughly test the drive in question.

Unplugged the drives but still windows opens slow. Bios is updated. Using built in SSD. No solution yet.

That's one of the known early symptoms of SSD failure.

They will appear as something like Intel Chipset SATA/Pcie RST Premium Controller. Under Storage controller.

Do you have any software to check out health of your drive ?
