I shall swap for the old RAM tomorrow and rerun the software.

What do you mean by test the software?

But when I replaced the SSD I did a clean install and it behaved this way from then on.

I'll try the RAM swap out next.

By test the software, I mean use the software you want to use on the machine to see if it works fast enough. I use the benchmark site and it always says my machine is performing poorly, works fine for me though.

It appears I sold the RAM.

I have checked with HP and they confirm it is the correct RAM, and that it wouldn't boot up if it was incorrect.

    Hi,

If they confirmed it to be the good memory, why is the specs of the machine say that.
Depending on what CPU you have, these are the supported combinations.

    Intel Core i7-7500U, i5-7200U, i3-6006U processors
    DDR4-2133 (transfer rates up to 2133 MT/s)
    DDR4-2400 bridge to DDR4-2133
    Dual-channel support

Intel Pentium N3710, Celeron N3060 processors
    DDR3L-1600 (transfer rates up to 1600 MT/s)
    Single-channel support

    Configurations
    Intel Core i7-7500U, i5-7200U, i3-6006U processors
    4096 MB total system memory (4096 MB x 1)
    6144 MB total system memory (2048 MB x 1 + 4096 MB x 1)
    8192 MB total system memory (4096 MB x 2)
    8192 MB total system memory (8192 MB x 1)

Intel Pentium N3710, Celeron N3060 processors
    2048 MB total system memory (2048 MB x 1)
    4096 MB total system memory (4096 MB x 1)
    8192 MB total system memory (8192 MB x 1)

    Maximum
    Up to 8 GB

Not booting isn't strictly true, it could just be lower performing than it could be / supported by processor.

One thing I have thought about this. How do you know it's slower? Did you try it before any of the upgrades? You mention that you have upgrade the SSD, but it was already an SSD. That's unlikely to do much unless the old disk was completely full or had errors.

What software are you using with the machine? You said it was astrophotography software, that could be Photoshop or something running a telescope? Can you find the recommended specs for the software and compare against what you have in the laptop?

It's a tricky one, at the moment, based on the above, it's looking to me like that might just be the speed of that laptop.

What specs does your laptop have? You have given the model number but there are various configurations.

There was about 7Gb of free space on it before and not enough for a system restore. I wont be using it for Photoshop as I have a Pentium i7 Desktop with 64Gb RAM for that as well as the various stacking software.

What I do run on it is SharpCap, PHD2, EQMOD and Stellarium with these controlling thew mount. It felt a bit slow before the upgrade but far worse now.

One odd thing in about it says the PC is a Desktop 880 whereas Belarc says as I expect that its a HP 250 G6 as I expect. The processor is Intel i3-6006U 2.00 GHz

SharpCap is asking for i5 processor, I do understand that this is more to do with past and current usability, though.

Unsure what is going on with the difference in model reporting. I must admit I am a bit confused whether it's a desktop or a laptop machine, it doesn't really affect anything so far. Laptops are more likely, in my experience to have a fancy driver you need to get from the manufacture site. The one Windows grabs won't always work as intended. The Dell laptop I had needed a special driver and installation order for the GPU and iGPU, the one from Windows worked but not quite well.

This leads me back to the memory or an issue with the new SSD. I've bought some memory before that whilst it worked, it was super slow and caused me problems. Your issue seems to be in the program loading, is that correct? Once the program has loaded it runs just fine? In your previous setup, was there any pre-loading of the software? Sometimes software pre-loads parts knowing it will be used to speed up the load process.

There's no issue with it loading. Once loading it is slow to respond - eg a drop down menu may take 10-20 secdonds to appear.

Is the laptop slow otherwise? I've had a bit of a Google into your issue and stumbled upon your posts in the SharpCap forum. Could it be the hardware setup? When you did a complete reinstall of Windows, did you download all the new drivers for your hardware or use the same version as you used previously? Other than the memory and SSD, has anything else changed? If the software loads quick enough, SSD and memory are probably fine.

I have discovered that the worst of the problems have been solved by replacing the EQMOD cable for a proper LynxAstro one rather than whatever I bought on EBay. This hasn't changed the fact though that its benchmark comes in at 17-20%. Is that something I should be worried about?
