    Windows\SoftwareDistribution: 25 apparently empty folders

    See title. Why are they there, why are they (apparently) empty, and what would happen if I deleted them? Speculation accepted with thanks, but solid knowledge appreciated infinitely more. Xie xie. 谢谢

    Thank you, SoFine. I'm having no trouble at all with WUpdate, except that my downloads of update files are very slow as a rule. But I'm in a rural area (-1), in Canada (-2), on satellite (-10), and impatient (-50). I got the 5005565 updates yesterday on both desktops without any real trouble, so I'm cool.

    I don't think messing with it will change anything; I just wondered about it.

    @AddRAM
    I'm just wondering why Disk Cleanup doesn't list (or deal with) these empty folders if they're nothing of significance.

    Of course I know that DC doesn't mention (or deal with) a LOT of junk things, but I'd have thought all these empties would be significant enough to get some attention.

    maybe because Microsoft themselves don't really know how to make DC clean up or clean out those folders from the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder

    When some folders are deleted, Windows is unable to re-create them and it can have severe consequences.
    I have learnt this lesson a few times, so I remove files only, not folders, they take no disk space anyway.
