Clean Install of Windows 10 After UEFI bios Update?

Been Experiencing Slow File Transfers with USB 3.2 Gen 1 Ports, Contacted Gigabyte esupport, there response was if after updating F5D Uefi bios a clean install wasn't done, We suggest you do that, and update all the drivers, and supposely might make USB file transfers work better.

Is that True or False? Or a waste of my time, as reinstalling everything and copying data back surely would take a bit of time i would think

Might want to try updating the chipset driver, first. 2/25/2021

    Chipset Driver

Keep in mind, that there's no real way to test the USB transfer rates, in isolation. On one end you have Windows and your drivers, and on the other end you have the device you're transferring... to.

This is what I think Gigabyte is talking about.
You've already flashed the BIOS. All that leaves is Windows, your drivers, and the device(s) you're transferring to.

With the new BIOS and the latest chipset driver... that pretty much points to either the device your transferring to, or Windows.

The easiest way to "fix" Windows is to do an In-Place Upgrade. Took about 40 minutes on my computer.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Here is the short version of the In-place upgrade tutorial...

    DISABLE non-Microsoft:
    a) antivirus software
    b) firewall software
    c) drive encryption software

Make a full OS backup with a program like Macrium Reflect (free)
Macrium Software | Macrium Reflect Free

Go here and get the Media Creation Tool and save it to your desktop.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10

RUN the Media Creation Tool and use it to: Create an ISO image... save IT to your desktop.
This will be the latest version of the ISO image.

Right click the ISO image and choose: MOUNT
Open File Explorer and you will see a new drive letter. It will look like a DVD optical drive.
Double click the new drive letter to open it.
Find setup.exe and double click it to start the in-place upgrade.

Choose the Keep personal files and apps option.

After it's all done... to UNmount the ISO image, right click the new drive letter and choose: EJECT.

The ONLY thing you will lose is some of your personalizations. Your programs and data will be intact.

If the above things don't work... then a clean install would be the easiest way to fix your issue.
Keep in mind, that it could also be the device you're transferring... to, that's causing the slowdown.

Yeah could be the drive itself, or the Enclosure interface itself, already purchased a newer USB 3 Cable, Purchased a newer Enclosure for said drive or other spare drive have here, Will Install the updated Chipset drivers, and see how that goes.

Might see when the newer Enclosure comes, if my 4TB WD Black Drive will fit inside that one, and keep the 8TB drive in Current Enclosure or swap that one back to the Vantec Enclosure possibly...as the current RSHTech USB 3.0 enclosure was dropped one time when the device was unplugged a while back

    Chipset Drivers Updated!
Will Do more Testing tomorrow, for tonight, think it's time for bed, as don't wanna stay up half the night working on this particular issue again lol

If possible...test with other devices... USB sticks... etc.
I assume you're testing with a program like CrystalDiskMark ?

You can't go by Window's transfer gauges or even reported transfer speeds.

For example.. the free Macrium Reflect v7, reported 23 GB/s when making a full OS image backup. It took 2:30 minutes to complete.

Now I'm on the paid v8 and it reports 11.2 GB/s, yet the backup still takes 2:30 minutes.

Even in internal file transfers, I notice wildly different speeds.
I think that with the latest BIOS and chipset driver, you have to assume Windows is letting USB 3.2 work at top speed.
Use CrystalDiskMark to test your device.

Get the .zip (portable version) here: Download – Crystal Dew World
...make sure you get: CrystalDiskMark 8.0.4, and not CrystalDiskInfo.

A few months ago I bought a 256GB USB stick that supposedly had read/write speeds about 440MB/s
So I tested it with CrystalDiskMark, while plugged into a 3.2 port...

Yes Been Testing with CrystalDiskmark (portable version) Will Test a variety of Devices this morning, starting with my USB 3.2 Gen 1 Flash drive, then work my way down to other USB 3.0 Devices, Then more testing once the new External enclosure arrives, and decide which drive gets the pleasure of being in the new one

Of Course Main backup drive Seagate 8TB is SMR drive, wasn't my choice on obtaining that one, won that in Seagate Twitter CES Contest in January 2019, Think my 4TB WD black will get a home in that enclosure, 8TB either will stay in current RSHTech USB 3.0 Enclosure, Vantec one i discontinued use of so far, as reviews stated slow usb 3.1 transfer speeds with that enclosure

Will begin testing right after breakfast in a few minutes

((Do Note The USB plugin on board says USB_3.2 F (guessing that means front, so perhaps the rear ports are actually just plain USB 3.0--Device manager in USB devices are doesn't list anything for USB 3.2 Gen 1, Just says USB 3.0 Controller--))
From Amazon Question & Answer Section---

    Answer:
The back of the motherboard has 4 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports. It has headers for two front panel USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.2 ports. Your computer case may or may not have support for these devices.

Guess what i get for opting for the local PC Shops Cheapest LGA 1200 Board in June 2020 as replacement to my former PC Asus G11CD-K OEM Desktop

OK... on the rear of your motherboard these are the USB 3.2 gen 1 connectors...
...all the other USB ports are USB 2.0

Clean Install of Windows 10 After UEFI bios Update?-image1.png

Your motherboard supports USB 1.0 USB 2.0 and USB 3.2
You can see the connectors on your motherboard, and check if they have cables going to them.
This will tell you for sure what version USB connectors you have on the case.

On the pic below... the "F" does mean front panel (of the case).

Ok Have Cables Plugged into the following F_USB32
F-USB2 (Bluetooth wire from Wifi/Bluetooth card)
    F_Usb1 (From Case)

Standard Power cables like 24 pIn, CPU extra power cable on top of board

Do have a Cable going to F_U32 Port On motherboard, and 2 Cables on F_USB2 and F_USB1, F_USB2 is the bluetooth usb connection from wifi card.

Don't see any other USB internal cables going anywhere

Then we can assume the your case front panel, has at minimum, one USB 3.2 connector.

As for the external drive benchmarks... you can look up the make/model of the external enclosure(s) and the drives within, and figure out what you should be getting.

As I mentioned above... I don't know of "just" a USB 3.2 port benchmark.
It would be nice if you could buy a cheap USB stick, plug it in, and it would tell you the percent of the maximum USB 3.2 speed you are getting.

Will definitely look up external drive benchmarks and go from there, currently front port taken by My Logitech G935 Wireless Mix Adapter, but i can move that if need be to perhaps a rear port to free up the Front 1 port.

Appreciate all the quick replies on this topic, glad i didn't just go for the clean install after all, as not even sure if would've helped any
