Will definitely look up external drive benchmarks and go from there, currently front port taken by My Logitech G935 Wireless Mix Adapter, but i can move that if need be to perhaps a rear port to free up the Front 1 port.

Appreciate all the quick replies on this topic, glad i didn't just go for the clean install after all, as not even sure if would've helped any

As I'm sure you've already checked... the absolute maximum speed for USB 3.2 gen 1 is... 5Gbps, or 625 MB/s

Sitting here thinking about it... I notice you have a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB 2.5 inch SSD.
You could benchmark THAT in your computer, save the results, then temporarily mount it (if possible), in your external enclosure, and re-benchmark it. You should get pretty much the same results form that SSD, whether mounted internally or externally.

The top speed of the 860 EVO is like 550 MB/s which is less than the USB 3.2 max. speed of 625 MB/s, but very close, so it would be a good test tool.

Well... if the problem IS something in Windows...then an In-Place upgrade will fix it.
If the problem is still with some 3rd party program or driver... then you need to fix the driver or 3rd party program.
This is probably why Gigabyte suggested what they did.

A clean install would fix any Windows issues, and (because you'd have to re-install everything), any 3rd party program or driver issue.

For me... if I noticed file transfer speeds, dropping, with an external device... first thing I would assume, is the external cable or enclosure.

Yeah i purchased a newer External enclosure that i could afford, just submitted purchase for a Kingston USB 3.2 Gen 1 Flash drive, Do have a Samsung 860 Evo 250gb ssd that isn't in use, i could switch into one of the enclosures if need be (former boot drive before i got the M.2 boot drive)

Already ordered a newer USB Cable for the External enclosure, and hooked it up

New RSHTech enclosure should be here hopefully by Monday August 9th

Amazon.com: Hard Drive Enclosure RSHTECH USB 3.0 to SATA Aluminum External Hard Drive Dock Case for 3.5 inch HDD SSD up to 16TB Drives, Support UASP (RSH-339): Computers & Accessories
(Model i ordered, nearly 5 star reviews, so guessing can't be too bad lol hopefully lol, guess will find out)

Guess should've bought a USB 3.2 Gen 1 capable one, but unforuately couldn't find any i could afford

Do Own this Enclosure also, currently without a drive in it
I can reinstall a drive in this one if a good idea

Amazon.com: Vantec NST-371C31-BK NexStar Gx USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C 3.5" Sata HDD/SSD Enclosure, Comes with C to C and C to A Cable, Aluminum Casing, Black: Electronics

(8TB Samsung will fit in this enclosure), unforuately 4TB WD black one overheats in this enclosure--was up to 60C before i stopped the transfer and disconnected it from system, so i could swap 8TB to Vantec one, and put 4TB in the new RSHTech one

What I meant was... you could use the 860 EVO to see if the external gave the same results as the internal benchmarks.

If, the last time you checked, the Samsung 860 Evo 250gb ssd was running at near max. speed... you could use that as well, just to test.
These are the max. speeds for the 250GB Samsung SSD...

Max Sequential Read Up to 560 MBps
Max Sequential Write Up to 530 MBps

Ok Digs out the 860 Evo 250GB SSD and gets it setup in one of the enclosures asap here, and tests that, hopefully that does get max speed, will find out hopefully shortly here

IF it does get max. speed or close... then we know it's NOT the cable, enclosure, Windows or any 3rd party software, or drivers.

Right, Will get that installed into the enclosure in a few minutes here, and then test it, and see what outcome is
    @Ghot

Samsung 860 Evo 250GB SSD in the Vantec USB Enclosure results of 2 Crystaldiskmark tests below, then gonna break for lunch

Probably all gonna get, this was in the rear ports above the ones that have Ethernet Port at the end of the usb ports

If at all possible... now, put the 860 EVO 250GB inside the comp, and run the benchmark again.
You could temporarily put it in the slot used by the 860 EVO 1TB.
You don't need to run the 16 GiB file size.

This is the only way I can think of to directly benchmark the USB 3.2 port.
By comparing it to the internal SATA III ports, which are approx. the same speed.

    @Ghot

Well I'd have to first find a Sata power adapter that works inside the PC, i originally was gonna keep it inside when i installed the 860 Evo 1TB, but couldn't find a Sata power adapter that wanted to work.

I do have 2 extra Sata ssd mounts--mounting not an issue, it's just locating an available power adapter that actually works, don't know if PC shop didn't plug in sata 2 or 3 cable, or what, might take a bit of time to get this part done unforuately

Picture included when i originally was gonna mount in the extra spot, will try to work on this aspect early tomorrow, and hopefully get it to where it actually powers up, i got plenty of Sata ports open as well, so not a big issue there either, except 1 maybe disabled due to M.2 since installed

((The Power plug in the picture connected to the drive--did not work, i finally just removed this drive, and said i'll fix it later sometime or when i upgrade the power supply and redo all the wiring))

We don't have to do any of this... you COULD do the clean install. An In-Place upgrade MIGHT solve the problem, clean install would fix ALL software issues.

I don't know what you mean by power adapters. the 250GB and the 1TB, 860 EVOs should have the exact same power and data cables.

Yeah... just temporarily unhook the cables from the 1TB and hook them to the 250GB. then run the benchmark again. You can just let the 250GB ...rest on that pile o' cables for the benchmark.

When you have the results... then hook the cables back to the 1TB.

SSDs have no moving parts, they don't "need" to be bolted down... for something like a quick little benchmark.

Speaking of which... brb (2 mins), have to switch to my Windows 11 SSD.
