The temp files contain very little in usage.
The clean up is showing 4.85GB in Temporary Internet Files which I can't seem to get rid of.
Well if you don't want to help yourself...
Wiztree is completely trustworthy in my view, it is blazingly fast when scanning a complete drive, and seems to show everything. This is my system disc:
It took 1.3s to scan the whole disc (SSD). My whole C: uses only 24GB, according to disc properties, which I believe tells you how much is really used, rather than adding up apparent file sizes, which matches WT's 'allocated' column. Wiztree size reporting may have some idiosyncracies, but (for example), my MSOCache folder is a hard link to another drive, and it correctly reports that as zero.
All my programs are installed on C: (Office, programming environments, many utilities). Edge (which I don't use) takes up a ludicrous 800MB in several folders, my PF\WindowsApps is down to only (?) 500MB, of which 270 is 9 copies of the MS.LanguageExperiencePack (why oh why?). I have removed all the 'apps' I can get rid of, but those 9 copies have been sneaking in since last year.
Why do I tell you all this? Because i like to keep a tidy ship, and it does take some work, but shows what can be done. There is 1GB of pointlessly-retained rollupfix package data in Windows\servicing\LCU which I may get around to removing. Windows does eventually tidy this up itself, but it doesn't rush the job.
You won't easily reduce your disk usage unless you go to some effort, and Wiztree makes it about as easy as Windows permits.
dalchina and mngerhold: 'As you're unwilling to provide the information...' and 'Well if you don't want to help yourself...'. This seems a little harsh. What I was trying to say was, first, I am trying to increase the current space, not install more apps; and second, I am not in the habit of just installing apps because someone I don't know thinks it's a good idea - that's how malware is introduced. Please be a little sensitive to my caution. I have, in no way, suggested that I am not going to install Wiztree, just that I wanted further information before doing so. Neither had I suggested that I was not willing to provide further information. I am currently investigating this app as it's the first time I'd heard of it, but I'd rather find a solution without installing it.
I appreciate any help I can get, but I'm cautious about messing about within areas I am not familiar with and installing just anything.
Also, the tone in some of the comments suggests a lack of desire to help. Please be respectful.
Matt316, we all are volunteers, sharing our knowledge and giving our time to someone we don't know.
You came here for help as you don't know what is going on. We suggest tools to investigate. If you refuse to follow our advice, what do you expect from us?
The wiztree doesn't need to install. It's a portable. Extract and run.
Megahertz, if you re-read my posts you will notice that nowhere do I say that I 'refuse' to follow your (plural) advice. As I explained, I'm just cautious of installing (and running) new programs on my system. I know that you say that it can be set up as a portable, but this still means that I have to run it on my system. In the past I have run apps based on recommendations of people I didn't know and have had problems. Once bitten... In the second post, here, Callender suggested that I 'Check size using something other than explorer.' Which I did. Also suggested was Wiztree, which I was hesitant about. Note, 'hesitant', not that I refused. Please would people here read the posts properly.
Please forgive me if I have misunderstood the tone of the posts, here, but it came across to me as if some were saying, 'if you don't do exactly what I want you to do, I'm not interested.'
Please understand me correctly. I am very cautious about running unknown programs on my system due to previous experiences. The people who suggest these may well be perfectly honest (and knowledgeable) with their initial offers of help, and in no way am I trying to be disrespectful to them. But I am also trying to be honest with my caution.
As this thread has become somewhat uncomfortable, it might be better if I were to drop this one for the moment while I investigate Wiztree. Sorry for any frustration I have cause others, but please, please, please, re-read my posts and understand my position.
I am sorry for adding to the apparent harsh comments - but at this end we have plenty of experience of OPs who seemed to want help but declined to listen (or act, or even reply), and that is frustrating. The wealth of experience here means that a recommended program is unlikely to be malware, although some sources are risky for all of us, given the way programs are bundled; or the multiplicity of 'download' links, of which the desired one is obscured. Please do carry on, as we would like to find out whether we have helped (or not).
Good luck, Martin
Hi. OK, installed and run Wiztree. Here's a screen shot with c: properties over it for comparison. The figures are different from previously stated as I removed a couple of large 'deleted' files from the recycle bin. This may well have accounted for a proportion of the discrepancy, but certainly not all. What can you tell me based on the screen shot?
Matt
I can't see anything not normal.
Only strange is 25% of the files has no extension.
