    HP Pavilion Desktop - Used for Photo Editing - Slow Performance

    As you all know or some may not know, I don't know. But I use my HP Pavilion Desktop as my photo editing device. This computer has 16 GB of installed RAM (Memory), a 500 GB SSD for the Windows 10 OS, and a 1TB HDD for storage. It is supposed to have a lot of power with plenty of speed. But as of late, it hasn't been doing so well. I have noticed a tremendous amount of slow downs from Adobe Photoshop Lightroom. Does anyone know how I can fix the performance of it? I am photographing a Wedding next weekend and I really need it to have plenty of good performance for photo editing afterwards. Does anyone know of any programs that will increase the slow performance?

    I have a very old HP Pavilion - about 10 years old. It started to get like this, but has improved no end with a clean install. I have a 1tb SSD which is half full. I believe SSD's when they start to get to a certain level of "fullness" can slow down. Which is partly why I got the 1tb one when I was on 400gb of files. Needed it anyway as I'm now on 500GB.

    Is it just Lightroom that is slowing down? You probably won't have time for a clean install and drive upgrade. But maybe swapping out the HDD for another SSD would improve things.

    Or uninstalling and reinstalling Lightroom? I also uninstall One Drive as that can really slow things down - as can a big windows update running in the background.

    @Hazel123, a Clean Install may be the best route. I don't know. It just seems sluggish all around, but Lightroom is where it gets worse. At this time, I cannot buy another SSD.

    You may have a lot of programs running on the background or even an upgrade on the way.
    Try a clean boot and see if it gets faster.

    I'm using Capture One Pro and cyberlink powerdirector on my ancient HP laptop (Core i5). Both big programs and no slowing at all. I have had issues with things starting to get laggy generally but usually resolved by a clean install

    Do you have perfmance issues only with the photoshop program? or with other programs?

    I can mybe help you with this performance issue by recording a trace, with Windows performance recorder:

    - Open a command line as an Administrator;
    - Type this command "wpr -start CPU -start DiskIO"; this will start trace recording.
    - Work on your photoshop doing the task that lead to performance issue (do not record more than 1 minute to not have a big trace)
    - Type this command to stop trace recording "wpr -stop C:\MyTrace.etl".
    - Compress the resulting files (Important)
    - Share it through Send Large Files - Free Secure File Transfer - TransferNow or any other file sharing platform.

    Funnily enough after saying how zippy mine was after a clean install, it got incredibly slow and laggy - did my head in for a whole evening. It turned out to be a very big windows update - took a long time to download, slowed everything to an unusable speed and spent a very long time installing. After that things were still a bit iffy. But by next day it was back to normal.

    So maybe you had a big update.
