    Reset Powershell to default?

Is it possible to reset Powershell to complete defaults i.e the font, colors etc?

    Hello @Kol12,

Which version of PowerShell are you referring to, is it the latest one?

    I hope this helps.

I think you are referring to the PowerShell console / window rather than to any PS code.

1 Open your existing PS window
2 On your Desktop, right-click, New, Shortcut and make a new shortcut to open a PS window by entering the 'Location' powershell.exe then run it to open another PS window. It will open with default properties.
3 Click on the >_ icon in the top-left corner of each window & select Defaults.
4 Copy any properties you want from the new one to the old one.

Also note the 'customizations' of PowerShell may also be the same for the Command Prompt. I right-click the Title bar to get the Properties. I do a screen capture of the defaults before changing.

Yes. Have a look at this MS article about PowerShell profiles. It will show you what different profiles are available, where they are stored and how to start sessions without using a profile, i.e. default fonts, colours, etc.

    Hope this helps...

So after creating the powershell.exe desktop shortcut and running it I get a black background with white font. I thought the default was a blue background and yellow font?

    Oh dear, you're right.

Here are my unaltered originals instead - PowerShell-Lnks.zip

Why doesn't the original method create the proper defaults?

    I don't know.

The implication of the first method not working is that the shortcuts are not, in fact, pure but are customised i.e. they seem to have been created and then set up by MS to appear in the manner we now think of as being defaults but are actually not.
