Will adding RAM will help to speed up my PC?

Hi,
I was thinking to add additional RAM on my computer to make it faster. I know that in some cases adding memory will not make any difference because there is a
certain limit with the motherboard, I am not sure if I understand how that works. Attached is the snippet showing my computer processor information. Can anyone clarify if I add additional RAM that will improv the speed?

The Intel 2600 was a legendary processor in its time....but that was 10 or 12 years ago.

A change from 8 to 16 gb RAM is noticeable only in certain circumstances....if you have high expectations there is a strong chance you will be let down.....especially if you are anywhere near a typical user.

You might get a bigger bang for your bucks by buying a stronger (used) CPU for your motherboard. I can't recall the upgrade path from that far back. I know there was a 2700, but that would offer very little improvement.

Maybe save your money and look to upgrade the whole works.

Or go for an SSD if you don't have one. That will help a bit for a lot of tasks, but you might not be overly impressed with that either.

I'd guess you most likely need a stronger CPU if you want to get much of an improvement.

You didn't describe your computer, but it has a decent processor for normal functions and non-gaming use.

If you have a choice between adding another 8 GB of RAM (if 16 GB is supported) or switching from a hard disk drive(HDD) to a solid state drive(SSD), I would switch to a SSD.

Speed and snappiness will improve a bit.

Yeah, the computer is pretty old but I am kind of happy with it. I recently added SSD and it become faster at least when i turn on the machine. I was thinking maybe additional RAM would help while using software like photoshop or Autocad but I guess I shouldn't bother upgrading it further maybe better to buy a new computer as you guys suggest.

how do i know if it supports 16 gb? where do i check that?

What motherboard do you have?

That should be mentioned in the motherboard specifications.

Go to the motherboard maker's web site and start pounding on the "support" area for documentation.

If you've got a pre-built like Dell or HP or Lenovo, go to their websites.

Chances are your board will support 16, but you need confirmation.

I'm reasonably sure you require DDR3 RAM, which you may find more expensive than the current DDR4 which you likely can't use. Add to that the fact that if you insist on 16, you would be best advised to buy 16 new rather than 8 more to add to your existing 8.

Have you confirmed through Task Manager that you are using all of your existing 8 GB of RAM?

If you regularly use Photoshop and Autocad then more RAM is likely to be of significant benefit. Check your computer hardware as suggested to confirm compatibility.
