Why is there multiple console window host open in the background?-task-manager-multiple-console-window-host.png

For those that don't know, it's the command prompt running in the background but without a graphical user interface. Is it being used as an attack vector to run viruses on my computer that bypass the antivirus because the commands are being run by a microsoft file?

    I'm using Windows 10 20H2

How long is your machine on before they show up?
Right clicking on the Task Manager titles (such as Name) allows you to add more info, such as location of the process being run, it's command line if you like.
None of them seem to be using any CPU cycles, is that how they remain over time?
Have you tried running Adwcleaner and other virus checkers (ESET I think has an online scan available).
Could they be part of your Comodo security suite?
What apps do have running while these processes show up? Something is pegging your disk at 100%, are you running at scan at the time the screenshot was taken?

If you've not already found it, this may be of interest:
What Is conhost.exe and Why Is It Running?

You could compare with what happens after e.g. a clean boot, and to disable more startups for test purposes, use Autoruns (free from MS).

    History: usually omitted by posters:
    - how long had this been happening?
    - what changed before it started happening?

You could also use Sysinternals Process Monitor and/ or Process Explorer to try to narrow down which services are being called and by what. Both programs have some very detailed info, boot logging and real time monitoring, with a lot of filters and options. Can be a bit overwhelming at first, but very useful.

Glad you have sorted it, as a matter of interest would you mind saying which software it was so that anyone else with a similar issue may get a heads up, it could help the search feature of this forum?
