Strange title-display for Windows Security in menu and settings

OK, we're into Sherlock Holmes mode now. Thanks, Bree, for once again offering a helping hand....

As regards base language.... that may be an explanation. I seem to recall (now hard to confirm) that the default language in the MCT upgrade operation, and thus presumably in the Win10 when first set up, was English (US). Then - was it yesterday or the evening before? - at some fairly early stage after the upgrade to Win 10 was done I amended the configuration so that English (UK) was the default. I think that I had to download a language pack to do this.

So if that's the explanation, is it simply a matter of reverting to English (US) and re-running the repair install?

As for the build, what I have is Win 10 Pro version 20H2 build 19042.631, installed 06/05/2021 (ie 6 May). I've just checked: there is a cumulative update (KB5001330) available and pending install.

So which route should I try first? Bash on with the update and then try a repair install? Or try to amend the language back to English (US) before doing so?

EDIT AND UPDATE: I couldn't resist! I went into language settings, changed the language to English (US), signed out and back in, looked at the Start menu. Problem - apparently - immediately solved! No lengthy text under "H", and a listing for Windows Security under "W". And when clicked to open the settings, the page-heading is "Security at a glance" rather than that long string of garbled text shown in my original screenshots.

So what's the problem with Microsoft, or Windows 10, operating in proper British English or English (UK)? Is this some kind of bug within the language settings? Anyway, it's another clue, or pointer which might help with the diagnosis. I'll hold off doing the update and/or running a repair install until after any comment on this curious linguistic glitch.

I have the MCT still sitting on my desktop. It was what I used to do the Win7 to Win10 upgrade which preserves data, apps and settings. As I understand it I can do a repair install just by running it (step 6 onwards in the tutorial here.

I did create a Win10 ISO, using the same tool, a couple of days ago, and i have both the image and a (bootable) USB stick with that ISO.

I have no idea whether what the MCT uses when you run it, or the ISO I have saved, are the English International (en-gb) or the English (en-us) install media! Is there a way of checking this before running a repair install from either MCT or from the ISO?

Meanwhile I've downloaded and installed the latest (KB5001330) cumulative update. Will that "cure" the peculiar language problem with Start Menu/Windows Security?

Or will I have to run a repair install anyway (from MCT or from the ISO?) and hope (or see) whether after the latest update it will allow me to keep the installed settings, apps etc?

A further update.... and (fingers crossed) the problem is solved without having to do a repair install.

Just to spell out the sequence of actions.

- I installed the latest update (KB5001330) for this build of Win10;

- I then logged into to each account in turn, changed the language setting to English (US) then signed out and in again. In each account, the Start menu display and the Windows Security Settings page showed the correct titles, with no strings of garbled text;

- I then logged back into each account again, changed the language setting back to English (UK), signed out and in again on each account in turn;

- And, guess what, this time the titles, labels and listings are as they should be: no more garbled strings of text.

If that remains and doesn't go awry again when the wind changes direction or the sun rises tomorrow, then I might regard this particular problem as resolved - without the need for a repair install. Which is one less headache!
