    Thanks.

    - a lot better.

    - You may have a paging file set to certain limits. Check it's set to automatically managed (default).

See if you can try that with a large enough file that gives you time to see the transfer rate as a number.
yes, the page file is set to a certain limit and not to automatically managed. If I understand you correctly the best choise would be automatic? I would imagine a set amount would be better? I have a lot of free space on the HDD available?

I would need to try transferring a larger file over the weekend as I am away for the moment. I can now only access the computer remotely and as we`ve seen that may give false readings.

(You don`t happen to know about a good, affordable, remote access program? :) Teamviewer wont allow access from hotel networks to my home and the paid version is extremely expensive...)

You consider buying more RAM, Amazon.com

    and also SSD Amazon.com

Also, Don't run W10 in an slower hardware. It would be bottlenecked.
Run W7 or if you want, Linux.
I strongly agree here, too. The drive is the worst bottleneck. And 4 GB is too little for 10, even with anything NT 6-based, it's questionable!

4GB is what the OP is stuck with, it's the maximum the laptop's chipset supports.

Actually I find 4GB sufficient for most purposes, obviously more would be better but several of my machines get by on 4GB just fine.

I routinely use a 4GB machine for video and audio editing (it also helps that it has an i5 processor). It only hits the swapfile and slows down if I try to do both tasks at the same time, processing video in the background and editing a soundtrack in Audacity.

I have Core i3 with 4gbs of ram. My solution of that is a clean boot permanently with enable your want programs to run at startup.

If i'm exporting a video from Shotcut, my CPU usage goes 100%. So, I just browsing TenForums so my CPU usage not to go nuts.

You can upgrade your RAM from 4GB DDR2 333mhz to 4GB DDR2 667mhz. It will give good performance. Also, Upgrade your HDD to an SSD. You can also use Linux or Debloat Windows 10.

debloat windows 10 - Google Search
