Sleep states and power drain 1909 build

You don't have S0 Modern standby. Your powercfg -a results say so. {Incidentally, I've never seen powercfg -a results that did not follow that S0 line with The system firmware does not support this standby state.]

Some computers switch off power to USBs. Some don't. Some can be set to whichever behaviour you want. You should check your Bios & your computer manual to see if you have any choice.

Checks to do
- 1 Find out what charge your battery is reaching. Perhaps it is worn out and that's why you can only sustain a few hours sleep.
- 2 Perhaps it is not sleeping when you close the lid.

1 Check the battery condition -

Run this command but with the path to a convenient folder of your own in place of my D:\Desktop

Code:

PowerCfg /batteryreport /output D:\Desktop\BatteryReport.html /Duration 1

Compare the reading for Last Full Charge with that for Design capacity

2.1 Check what you set in Power options, Choose what the buttons do.
2.2 Check in Event viewer for records of sleeping & waking up.

If you are not familiar enough with Event viewer to know what to do then unzip this Custom view definition and import it [look on the right-hand side of Event viewer for Import custom view]

Your first line is one reason for posting this question ...
Did the battery report and have last full charge at 64,608 with design as 68,020.
I did post the power buttons in post one ... only sleep or shut down.
Started looking at event viewer...
Arranged by source and found ...
I have no "42" events.
I have plenty of "1" events.
Arranged by date and grabbed image ...
Attached image is for today's event spanning wake from sleep through sleep for some hours then attempted restart by lifting lid, followed by power cord connect and subsequent restart.

EDIT: 42 events are not in power ... but now find plenty in Kernel-Power - but all as "information" without any warnings/errors.

Update from looking at that battery report ..
Attached image shows ...
Previous day was suspended for 15 hours and battery dropped from 61% to 54%.
Today was suspended for 5.5 hours and battery dropped from 39% to 1%.

So your suspicions probably correct over the usb power ... except that I "thought" both drives were plugged in overnight ... but cannot be certain now so will check bios and do a test.

You are right. Whilst the Custom view definition I posted is correct, I failed to write the full sources correctly in my para 2.2

The Custom view will display a lot more info than the list you posted.

I suggest you compare the Event viewer Custom view records of sleep & wake with the times when you closed the lid. That will prove, hopefully, that the computer is doing what you have told it to do.

The battery report certainly indicates that your battery is in very good condition and its "Previous day" results back that up.
- My own 17" laptop loses about 1-2% of battery charge every hour during sleep.

Note that reading Custom view definitions in any text editor is the start of the road to bedlam.

Just for training purposes / future reference then -

Unzip the Custom definition I posted,
open Event viewer,
on the right-hand side, click on Import Custom view then select the unzipped file,
it will ask you to give it a name - you can call it whatever you want, I call this one Power - Sleep-Hibernate transitions.

You'll then see the Custom view in the top set of entries in the left side of Event viewer. It shows you a lot more information than that list & is easier to comprehend because it is not full of entries about other topics.


Examples - EventID 1 - wake - General tab


Examples - EventID 1 - wake - Details tab

If those circled Hiber* entries are 0 then the wake has been from sleep
If those circled Hiber* entries are greater than 0 then the wake has been from hibernation


Examples - EventID 42 - sleep


Examples - EventID 131 - provides a count of the number of wakes since the last reboot [not useful very often but it can help in interpreting strange situations]

Not if you never look inside them.

Task scheduler task definitions are also saved in xml format. They are not as bad as Event viewer ones but can still be awkward to read.
