Ryzen 5600x and Asus Strix B550-E Not Booting

Hi Guys. My second machine was working perfectly yesterday but when I powered it on this morning it hung forever at the Asus boot screen for like 10 minutes before finally booting. I am not sure why its taking so long.

I have been trying various things through-out the day with no luck. I have updated the bios to 2006and changed the memory slows and just now tried older memory. All to no avail.

I wonder if something on the motherboard has died.

I fixed it! I know that my hard drive was dieing asd it had a lot of errors in the smart info. So I unplugged it and system booted normally. Strange that a dieing hard drive that is not even the boot drive should affect boot times like that.

During the boot process your BIOS will scan for connected devices. It will wait for devices like your hard drive to respond. Any device that fails to respond will hold up the boot process. I believe there is a timeout for this so that is why your computer eventually booted.

Several years ago I had a computer that did the same thing. I kept thinking it was the boot drive so I backed it up. Unfortunately I was wrong because the data drive was the real problem.I had an old backup of that drive but not a current one.The data drive stopped responding before I was able to get a more current backup.

Later I removed the data drive and place it in an external enclosure. All it would do was make a clicking sound.
