Windows giving conflicting message about drive errors

And yes I have ran
chkdsk C: /f /offlinescanandfix
earlier today with that error message still popping up when I check disc C in file explorer properties.

It just finished the scan - no changes, same message.

The best instant comprehensible analysis I know of is given by
Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) - portable version available. Right on its GUI.

There's a tab on the left for each disk you have. Includes a communication test and estimate of life.
Informs numbers of damaged and weak sectors.

No, this is nonsense. Not really sure what the user did, tried or experienced, but what he wrote is not true (maybe except the first line ;-)

I can confirm that no, Hard Disk Sentinel does NOT automatically repair sectors.

Generally in Hard Disk Sentinel, you can use

Disk menu -> Surface test -> Read test : to detect, reveal possible unreadable sectors.
You can even check which file(s) related, which file(s) may be damaged and then
can specifically select to manually repair those sectors (*)

or you can use

Disk menu -> Surface test -> Disk Repair test : to perform the above to detect, reveal possible unreadable sectors PLUS perform the repair automatically (*)
Not sure, but it is possible that the user started this function (?)


(*) means that these functions completely missing from the other tool mentioned:
so that tool does not give any options to repair (or as he called "map") the sectors.

Bad sectors already remapped by the hard disk / SSD are no longer visible in any software
of course. If you see "bad sectors" displayed in Hard Disk Sentinel in the text description,
it means that the disk drive(s) already reallocated ("remapped"). It does not mean
Hard Disk Sentinel remapped them automatically - but it means that the hard disk itself remapped (maybe even before installation of Hard Disk Sentinel) - and then the user can't see their original location in any disk test performed
by any software - as the spare sector used instead of the original (bad) one.

The disk tests (in any software) helps to reveal possible further damaged sectors (which
can be "bad"), which may need to be remapped / repaired. And there Hard Disk
Sentinel can help to perform the manual or automatic repairing (depending on the function used by the user).

And if all bad sectors are remapped, then the status can be improved in Hard Disk Sentinel (*) to do not display those problems, restore the health and be notified about possible new issues/degradations - for example possible
new bad sectors (if there will be).

This has been repeated many times in Ten Forums and each time the OP had launched Hard Disk Sentinel it appeared to have fixed bad sectors. Then HD Tune full error scan displayed no bad sectors.



Other OP had ran HD Tune first which displayed bad sectors.
HD Sentinel was then ran and HD Tune was repeated.
There were no bad sectors seen.


(The sectors may not have been fixed but appear to be fixed as they disappeared from HD Tune full error scan)

In this thread I had intended to run HD Sentinel after running HD Tune in case bad sectors were found.
In the logs there were no bad sectors reported.
So this is not the ideal thread for assessing the impact of running Hard Disk Sentinel on HD full error scans.

The ideal test is to find the event viewer reports of bad sectors.
Then run HD Tune full error scan > view bad sectors.
Then run Hard Disk Sentinel > view report that "The contents of these sectors were moved to the spare area." > then repeat HD Tune full error scan.
(In prior threads this had displayed the disappearance of bad sectors on HD Tune)

Hi those are older SS of drives that I no longer have, my system specs section reflects those changes. Anyhow, here's hd tune results, and I can't use HD Sentinel Pro as I grabbed it from a giveaway some time ago and have since formatted the drive it was installed on.
