    First SSD, how to care for it to optimize longevity or performance?

    finally after many years, I caved and bought a SSD. i've always worried about the lifespan of it considering cost/GB vs HDD.

    What should I do to optimize my SSD? different sites have different tips/options to change.

    i understand the difference between HDD and SSD the the SMART stats.

    i'm more referring to these:

    Nothing. Just use it. Enjoy it. It will almost uncertainly be too small for your needs once you wear it out.

    Pparks advice is spot on, just use it like any other disk.
    The only other thing I would say is, if the disk comes with manufacturers utilities check their advice, for example I have an Intel SSD and the utility recommends running TRIM once a week and emptying the cache occasionally to restore performance. Once a week is a bit excessive for my use case so I TRIM after a lot of deleting/ uninstalling/ installing which happens rarely.

    @imeem
    @pparks1 is correct. There isn't much you need to do.

    Once every month or two, run "Optimize"

    All you need to do is enjoy and let Windows handle the drive. That's it. I don't even run monthly optimization checks. I just simply let Windows do its thing and not worry.

    Do nothing and let Windows manage it. I have an Intel 520 SSD in my desktop PC from 2012 used every day and the Intel utility shows no wear.

    Check your SSD manufacturer's tool for maintenance.
