    Windows 10 very slow boot

Windows 10 version number 2004 (OS build: 19041.804)

    Hello,

I have been experiencing a very slow boot for my laptop for some time now, where in a good day it takes around 20-30 minutes but sometimes it can take even 2 hours! The laptop stays in black screen for that time until it goes to the log on screen (but if I restart the laptop then it goes directly to the log on screen where it boots for a long time after inputting my password). After that it runs normally. I think it started some time after a Windows 10 automatic update. I have done some checks like turning fast startup on/off and updating my graphics card driver but there is no effect. My BIOS is outdated (2013), but Task Manager says Last BIOS time was 17.5 seconds so I don't think that's the issue. I have created a boot trace but the file is 8 gb so I include a link to the zip file on Google Drive (laptop took 1.5 hours to boot for the trace). I would really appreciate any help on this as it is very time consuming.

    Thank you!

If you haven't already, I would suggest booting into safe mode and see how that reacts. Secondly, I would suggest logging into your Local Account instead of a Microsoft Account if that applies. Downloading the 500mg file as I type. Will add info after reviewing !

Thank you for your quick reply! Safe mode doesn't seem to solve the issue it still took 30 minutes to show the log on screen. I do not have a local account.

Your Bios is really outdated, why not update it ?
slow boot can be the result of an outdated Bios, and 17s of bios boot time is not an indicator that the bios is not the cause of the boot delay.

I tried to do that but when checking the model of my motherboard on msinfo32, the Baseboard Product is listed as "INVALID". Hence I am not sure how to update BIOS and was hoping the boot trace would reveal that the source of the problem would be unrelated to BIOS.

You can use tools like Speccy and HWiNFO64 to retrieve Motherboard information.

it's important you update your bios before going ahead with troubleshooting

Unfortunately both tools also list motherboard model as Invalid. I also ran Lenovo's tools for automatic updates of my system and it says no update is available.

Since your Lenovo has reached the EOL(end of life) stage, I suggest supplying as much extra info as you can as you move forward that may help others.
I would suggest adding this info to your Profile under Settings>Edit System Spec.....some things to add....version\build of Windows so you don't have to add to post, 32 or 64 bit Windows, Ram size 4,8 etc, is this Lenovo considered an Ideapad. Consider taking pic of the printed label possibly on bottom of PC in particular serial #.
Below are links that may or may not be helpful but simply examples to show with more info of your PC, searches might can find what you need !

Thanks for this! I have updated my details. The links you shared contain a page for a BIOS update on Ideapad Y500 but it is intended for Win 8 and it dates from 2014 so not sure how much it would help given that the problem showed up relatively recently. Is there anything that can be tested given the current system configuration?
