Do those devices spawn any processes in Task manager?
I only ask because I often use a script that prevents sleep & display turnoff without ever appearing in any of the [Paul Black] responses that you've tested & posted.
It can be very awkward checking for changes in Task manager's list of Processes so another way to check would be to run these commands [in cmd or powershell window] while the devices are connected and again when you have disconnected them.
Use any convenient folder path in place of my D:\DesktopRun this while they are connectedI think the easiest way to compare them would be by pasting the lists into neighbouring columns of a spreadsheet.

(BTW, an amazing tool for doing a comparison of multiple files is an app called DiffMerge. A life saver!)
Perhaps you could use Task manager to End task on each occurrence of dllhost.exe to see if it removes the problem.
- I suggest this merely as a way of getting some sort of confirmation that it is significant to the problem.
- You'd probably want to reboot afterwards so you are not affecting anything else while you investigate further.
Perhaps there are manufacturer's tech support & user forums for those devices?

Thanks Dennis, believe me, I have tried many times with tech support and forums at Virpil over the last year, but they wash their hands of the problem as they say it's a Windows issue, and frankly, I agree with them. As I said above, they use the standard MS USB drivers with all settings stored on-device in firmware. Again, as I said above, everything can be OK for weeks, then along comes a WU update or system change, and the problem is back with no change at all to the Virpil devices firmware or settings.
I've given up trying to find a real solution to this issue. I posted today hoping to get a workaround at least.
Did the results of Paul's powercfg reports mean anything?
If ending all instances of dllhost.exe makes the problem go away then that would be a step forward in understanding the problem.
But I could not call it a workaround since dllhost.exe must have other jobs to do.
