    Intermittent failure to start PC

Not sure if this is Win10 or just hardware, but about once a week, maybe less, when I start my PC it appears to start up, the keyboard lights flash a couple of times, then it just goes off. Usually if I press the Start button again it will start and work normally. While this is mildly annoying, as long as it starts up all is good, but why is it doing this, does it indicate a major failure coming (it has been doing this for over a year) and what can I do to stop this happening?

I am running version 1909 (OS Build 18363.1379) if that helps in any way?

Hope someone can point me in the right direction/provide some comfort that I should not worry?

    Thanks,

    David

    Is the CPU a i7-2600?

If positive, when was the last time you replaced the CR2032 coin battery?

After a overnight shut ed down, start the computer and enter BIOS. Is date and time correct?

You will probably need to run a Disk check, but first, as a quick test, run the following . . .

     Predicted Failure - Check

    About PredictFailure:

This checks the prediction failure status of the Disk using SMART.

    • If the PredictFailure status is FALSE, then the Disk is working without issues.
    • If the PredictFailure status is TRUE, then this means that SMART is predicting a Disk FAILURE.
    • If the Reason value is > 0, then contact the manufacturer to determine what the value actually means.
[ This value could have a different meaning for different vendors ]

[1] Click on this TenForums link => Batch Scripts / Programs.
[2] Click the direct download link Predicted_Disk_Failure.bat in the MENU.
    [3] Run the .bat file.

    IMPORTANT:

If PredictedFailure = FALSE, and Reason = 0, then Press any key to continue . . .
If PredictedFailure = TRUE, do NOT Press any key to continue . . . [ see below ].
If Reason is > 0, do NOT Press any key to continue . . . [ see below ].

    Predicted Failure = TRUE:

[1] Right-click on the title bar of the Administrator: Command Prompt Window > Edit > Select All.
[2] Right-click on the title bar of the Administrator: Command Prompt Window again > Edit > Copy.

    • Paste the results into your post using the [CODE] tags . . .

[3] In your post, click the Hashtag icon #.
[4] Click INSIDE the [CODE]Here[CODE] tags and press the Ctrl + V keys together.

    • In your post it will look like this . . .

    Code:

    <<< Results here >>>

    I hope this helps.

Thanks. Details are Active InstanceName PredictFailure Reason
    TRUE SCSI\Disk&Ven_&Prod_CT480BX500SSD1\4&f58e17d&0&000000_0 FALSE 0

Press any key to continue . . .

So I don't think that is a problem. The Disk is fairly new so should be fine.

Didnt know there was a batter that might need replaced. So never replaced it. Will check the BIOS date and time tomorrow if I remember before starting the PC.

the CR2032 coin battery also known as BIOS battery, holds the BIOS configuration and real time clock (RTC) when the computer is off. As it is 10 years old and you never replaced it is discharged. Must be replaced.

Battery Replacement didn't solve the problem

Last week I replaced the battery, and until today I had no problem. But just now when I booted up the PC it did the same thing. I press the start button, lights on keyboard flashed and the PC then just switches off. I had hoped the battery thing would have fixed it.

Any other suggestions please? I can live with occasionally having to boot the PC twice though it doesn't seem right, and I am concerned some day it sill decide not to boot up at all.

    Thanks,

    David
