Which registry cleaner to use ?

So I had Mass Effect + Dead Space + Battlefield 3 installed through Origin...

I uninstalled Origin before uninstalling the games first....

People say I should have uninstalled the games through Origin first. Because If I don't there will be registry left overs...

So I want to use a good registry cleaner... I know registry cleaners can destroy the system so I need one that is 100% safe...

    what is your recommendation ?

There is a free program called Revo Uninstaller.
It not only efficiently uninstalls anything... it also cleans the registry with a second scan.

    100% safe?

    Extremely rare bird, possibly extinct.

More likely, you get to choose between doing nothing and accepting "pretty safe, at least in my experience".

I'd guess most here would tell you to do nothing.......but that may be impossible for you, depending on personality.

The effectiveness of registry cleaners is a controversial topic. Registry cleaners are not supported by Microsoft, removing or changing certain registry data can prevent the system from starting, or cause application errors and crashes.

Good, I have already discovered Revo....

My problem is that I have uninstalled many programs not using the Revo but through Programs and Features in Control panel.....

what can I do to remove the residues now ? should I remove them manually ?

I would reinstall the program(s) and then use Revo to uninstall them.
Microsoft has through laziness or design, made stand alone registry cleaners, a thing of the past.

Side note: I have been using Revo since I installed Windows 10, on both Microsoft programs and apps, and 3rd party programs. It hasn't made any mistakes yet.

Under Options, this is how I have it set...

In the "General" section, on the left, I also unchecked "Check for updates on startup".
I left everything else at defaults.

    Probably not.
    It's different for different programs.

For some programs I do a search in File Explorer for the name of the programs main folders.
For example, if I uninstall Malwarebytes, I always search File explorer for Malwarebytes, and MBAM.

For a game like Diablo II, I would search File Explorer for... diablo*

Mainly, I just keep an eye on the various program folders in...

    Program Files
    Program File (x86)
    ProgramData
C:\Users\<account name>\AppData (Local, Local Low and Roaming).

That's about it for where most programs leave stuff. Clean those up and that will clean most of the registry entries as well.

For any leftovers on the Start Menu... look here...
    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
    C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs

So I should install origin then Battlefield3+MassEffect+DeadSpace and a lot of other things I have uninstalled over the years and then uninstall them through Revo ? that sounds crazy...

Would I be having any problems if I just stop caring about past programs that I uninstalled incorrectly ? And start using Revo from now on ?
