Did I cause any damage by running Disk Cleanup ?

So I ran Disk Cleanup then went to cleanup system files...

Some of the items were ticked and I think I additionally ticked some items too...I don't quite remember..

    Then started the process...

Is it possible that I have caused any damage to my system this way ?

No. Microsoft would not include any option that could harm the system. I routinely tick all the boxes.

There are a couple of options that have consequences though. One of these is available after a Feature Update or an in-place upgrade, the option to remove old Windows installs. Should you tick this option and run the clean up it would warn you that doing so will remove the ability to return to your previous version of Windows and ask if you really want to do this.

No harm, as long as the 'Downloads' is not checked off. I know many people who not only never move anything out of there but never back it up either. Thumbnails can get very large but things slow down,a bit, if it needs to get rebuilt.

Microsoft added 'Downloads' to the list of thing that could be cleaned up in version 1809....

We've all had to be careful not to wipe our Downloads folder since it was added to Disk Clean up in 1809.
Downloads Folder wiped with new build 18362.1

After (presumably) many complaints they removed Downloads from Disk Clean up starting in version 2004.

Starting with Windows 10 build 19018, Microsoft is removing the Downloads folder option from Disk Cleanup.

The main issues with cleaning are the loss of logs that could be used during troubleshooting.
There should be no system damage.

Run: Tuneup.bat - Click here to go to the BSOD batch repository to download and run this batch file.
