So... Yeah I wanna push this laptop to its limits. Can someone help me set up the ThrottleStop software for this laptop specifically so it wont throttle hard but will be able to work a little faster?
If someone cant read the specs of the laptop here they are:
Core i5-2520m 2.5Ghz base, turbo above 3.0
Intel HD3000 (custom drivers found right on this forum)
8gb ddr3 ram around 800MHz
You cannot push laptops at all that will make any difference.
The hardware is fixed to all intents and purposes.
All you can do increase the RAM memory to say 16 GB which means that the iGPU takes a smaller proportion of RAM with applications that use a lot of video RAM.
It will make no difference to other applications, general use etc.
Your Laptop CPU and integrated graphics and other hardware is 10 years old, and many technology improvements have been made with just about every bit of hardware in Laptops.
The only answer is to buy a new one.
A bit of software designed to fiddle with some parameters of modern CPUs is of no use at all.
This is not what you want to hear, I know that, but has to be said to save you wasting time.
The 'M' suffix on the end of your CPU indicates that it was designed for 'mobile' devices such as laptops. This is a 'locked' processor meaning that you cannot overclock it with Throttlestop or anything else. Only processors with a K or X suffix are 'unlocked'.

On your Dell laptop, check the Clock Mod box and make sure that is set to 100.0%.
Go into the Options window and on the right hand side near the middle, check the Disable Chipset Throttle option.
On the main screen make sure SpeedStep is checked.
Now you can check the Set Multiplier option and set that to the maximum value. Use ThrottleStop to access the Windows High Performance power plan. You need all the help you can get.
These settings will help your CPU maintain maximum performance. They will not turn a 10 year old mobile CPU into a world beater but it will make a significant difference if your Dell laptop has a throttling problem like many of their laptops have from this era.

This CPU should be able to maintain 3000 MHz when both cores are active and the CPU is fully loaded. If you are having any problems, go into the TPL window and increase the power limits to 45W for PL1 and PL2 if they are not locked. When running a 1 Thread TS Bench test, you might see the multiplier get close to its maximum, 32.00, but only if you do not have too much stuff running in the background. Any Windows background tasks will need to activate the second core which immediately drops the multiplier back down to 30.00. You should definitely see the multiplier between 30 and 32 during a 1 Thread test.
