It is handy in selecting folders with dmp files etc to be deleted which are created by some programs that would not otherwise be routinely cleaned, and its ability to keep selected cookies when cleaning those is useful if you worry about such things.

Very occasionally I check for excess garbage with Wiztree to see if there's anything to add to Ccleaner's list.

    I never clean the registry.

Search tenforums for ccleaner to see other discussions.

Well yes, in one important respect. Windows own clean up tools will only remove the temporary internet files for the built in Windows browsers, IE and Edge. CCleaner can clear them for all third party browsers as well (Firefox, Chrome, etc.).

An added benefit with using CCleaner to clean up browser cookies is that you can whitelist the ones you need to keep (Ten Forums login cookies, for example).

That's the main reason I still use CCleaner in addition to Windows own clean up. I'd never recommend using it's registry cleaning functions though.

    Thanks @dalchina and @bree

Does CCleaner still come with baggage? Adware etc? Windows Defender routinely picks up CCleaner installers as PUP.

As you said, Windows provides a basic Windows cleanup. CCleaner cleans more than Windows.

There are still some things to be careful about cleaning in CCleaner correct?

There were stories of it being hacked and Avast made undesirable changes, that's history. See below.

Download from a reputable site, and take steps to avoid it being added as a startup- it may try to do that every time you launch it. Also consider not letting it auto update.

    Older versions are available.

    Download CCleaner Standard - MajorGeeks
    - note comment- ad supported. Should be latest version.

History? It's says "supply chain attack's are today's top threat" and "are likely to continue for the coming years". On the plus side security is Avast's priority...

    Thank you for your reply.

I think you're overly concerned. And misreading that about its history. Good luck.

    Hello @Kol12,

Although Win 10 does a pretty good job [ but still far from perfect ] of keeping the OS tidy and clean, I think a combination of Tools is required for deeper and non-destructive cleaning.

I personally use on a regular basis, Disk Cleanup - Advanced [ .bat ], Event Viewer Cleaner [ .bat ], CCleaner - FREE, and Glary Utilities - FREE. I exclude the REG cleaner on the last two options because there is really NO performance benefit, but more importantly, it can lead to system problems. The trick with the last two is to get the Settings right for personal needs.

You will find there are a LOT of Utilities that perform cleanup operations, obviously some better than others, and some that suit some peoples needs more than others.

    I hope this helps.
