    No, gut feel is it is the apps and the developers took the easy way of the 99.999% chance the system values had not been changed. Less code.
    Thanks. I will report back on what the dev of cleanmgr+ says.

    @Chrysalis

    Personally I ditched CCleaner but I used it for years until recently. Anyway you should be able to write your own rules and add them but without CCleaner installed I cannot provide screenshots. Any decent Ccleaner alternative should also allow you to add your own rules.

    Examples:

    I don't use tune-up apps and never believed in them. I let Windows handle its needs. That's me.

    Well certainly on the machine that I use at work I just let windows handle it or run the built in cleanup tools/ commands. At At work though I'm using a Virtual Terminal Server most of the time.

    On my machine at home I prefer to dig a little deeper.

    It's because "I prefer to dig a little deeper" is precisely why I "don't" use them. Windows pretty much does what most of those apps claim to do.

    If they work for you, that's good. I don't use them, won't use them, and never recommend them. That's me.

    Peace

    Callender yep thanks, cleanmgr+ also allows custom rules which is what I was going to do.

    Sadly though I really wanted to use storage sense as that is an automated solution.

    I use CCleaner for caches/registry + 2 registry/shortcut cleaners. Maybe weekly.

    Even so, after 5 years I just reinstalled Windows and the speed difference was noticeable.

    Using RAMmap to clear memory whenever it slows.

    System Ninja to replace CCleaner.

    Zemana Antimalware works well with Windows Defender.

    Reinstalled Windows after six years now and noticing a 'like-new' difference!

    I like Ashampoo Winoptimizer 18, also has privacy tools which can tone down Windows telemetry, among other things as well.
