    Windows Explorer crashes

    I am now on w10 pro, 20H2 build 19042.804.
Since then (that is only 3-4 days) I have repeated crashes of Windows Explorer.
    Always same reasons.

I attach the report from WinDbg.
Can anyone help with this please ?

Please could you state the action or sequence that leads to the crash.

    Unfortunately unknown.
I cannot pinpoint which action triggers that.
    Still trying.

OK, tried to check Event Viewer.
Always, just before the crash, there is a log from NVWMI few sec before (see pic.)

I have NOT used that program before, but I thought I would try and help. I looked through the output and came across this . . .

    Code:
    PROCESS_NAME: explorer.exe

ERROR_CODE: (NTSTATUS) 0xc000071f - A threadpool worker thread enter a callback, which left with preferred languages set. This is unexpected, indicating that the callback missed clearing them.

    EXCEPTION_CODE_STR: c000071f

I don't know if someone knows what this is or a solution for it.

    I hope this helps.

Lacking an obvious analytical approach, you can of course try a process of simple elimination:

    Safe Mode - any crashes?
    Clean boot - any crashes?
non MS Shell extensions - disable - e.g. using Shellexview, Autoruns - any crashes?
    etc

Disable any 3rd party security software.

I.e. simplify and eliminate in the hope of identifying a related program.
You might focus on any obsolete or uncommon programs you have installed.

Are you using anything that modifies the appearance of Windows- a theme or 3rd party program?

    I have looked for this.
It is mentioned a lot, but never with a concrete explanation or solution (unfortunately).
But anyhow, I suspect that this only the symptom (that leads to app crash) and not the real reason.

No 3rd party antivirus or firewall. No 3rd party beautifiers also.

Because this happens (thankfully) 2-3 times a day, I started already from your last proposal (extensions).
I have disabled one, and will wait for 1-2 days to see what happens.
    Then move to the next.
Not very efficient, but cannot find a better approach for the moment.

I hope you have been making restorable backups before this happened. When my previous W8.1 explorer developed major problems, only a total reinstall fixed the situation. As others have posted, perhaps some 3rd party software operations is causing W10 explorer to crash. I was going to suggest Resplendence's WhoCrashed program, however, such programs are not always 100% accurate in finger pointing, and, I do not know if WhoCrashed is free anymore.

WhoCrashed cannot open the application-crash dump files.
Anyhow, WinDbg can, but still not much help (at least not for my understanding).

If you look at your Update History, which update or updates preceded this problem?
    Have you tried uninstall it/them?

I'd probably opt to disable all non-MS extensions and perform a clean boot to see if there's any chance of this not happening. If not, then work backwards.

If you can't reach a point where it doesn't happen, working thru 1 by 1 won't help.

    Similarly with Safe Mode.

If no joy with either of those, Autoruns (free from MS) can reveal additional startup items and extensions- sometimes even in Safe Mode.

Your PC seems to be from around 2019, so is relatively new.

There is, for example, a BIOS update dated Dec '20.

Have you tried running sfc /scannow
    And... Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
