    My motherboard temperature is too high

    I just had windows freeze for a moment, only to find that my motherboard temperatures were about 120c. I checked it with two programs, speccy and hwmonitor, and they report the same results. What results do you guys get?

    Solved, it was a false report by my motherboard.

    YIKES! That is WAY TOO HIGH. Motherboard temperature should be at most 5-10'C above room ambient.

    Are your case fans operating? Are there case fans?

    If you open the case is it really that hot inside (120'C IS REALLY HOT - BOILING WATER is 100'C!)?

    If not maybe your software is lying to you or possibly a motherboard temperature sensor has failed.

    I'm guessing (1) sensor failure, or else (2) fan failure if it really is that hot inside your box (but not likely).

    Probably a bad sensor. 120C is 248F. Which is enough to ignite wood.

    For comparison, my motherboard sits at approx. 22C

    Wood ignition temperature is 250'C to 300'C, not 120'C / 248'F. Think you got 'F and 'C confused.

    Yes, the fans are blowing. My computer doesn't really seem hot, it's barely warm actually. Is it the software that's reporting the wrong temperatures? If so, is it a problem with the software or my computer?

    It's the sensor. I wouldn't worry about it.

    What do you mean it's the sensor, could you clarify a bit?

    @Cerawy

    Also... your motherboard may not HAVE a sensor. This would also generate a reading like you're seeing.
    Either way, you can safely ignore that reading.

    IF the motherboard WAS operating at that temperature, it would have died long before now.
