    Windows 10 20H2 Long loading time black screen before login

    Hello all, I have a problem with Win10, namely it started to load slower and slower for me.

    At first, I did not pay much attention (System started time 15/20s) to it until the time increased to 10min (somewhere around June) then something really started to be wrong.

    I thought that using some disk defragmentation software would help, but it had no positive effect.

    I ignored the problem until recently when the time increased even further to 15/20 minutes, and now I don't know if it's better to format everything (although I'd rather not unless it's a last resort).

    Maybe there is some other less "drastic" way to solve this problem.

    Some information:

    The system is on a 2TB HDD of which 700GB is occupied.

    Everything is on 1 disk partition.

    I have not scanned the drive for bad sectors.

    The system was upgraded from 8 to 10, in January a year ago.

    I read somewhere on the internet that the "fast startup" option in the power options makes a difference, but both on and off have not changed anything for me.

    Hi @Piko12 and welcome to tenforums;

    I have not scanned the drive for bad sectors.
    You should start from here;
    - scan your disk for errors => chkdsk /R
    - check your disk health with HD Sentinel
    - check the event viewer for recurrent errors.

    But that I read somewhere that Windows 10 20H2 corrupts the disk after using this command chkdsk . It is true?

    Try a Restart (from running windows). It doesn't load the fast start hibernation file.
    It's probably a disk issue.
    Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    chkdsk c: /f
    It will say your disk is in use and if you want to schedule to next start = yes
    Restart
    Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

    Why don't you buy a small SSD (120G - US$25) for windows and programs and use the HDD for data only. You will have the speed of a SSD and the space of a HDD at low cost.

    I checked, 0% bad sectors, health 100%

    - check the event viewer for recurrent errors.
    I checked but I didin't see any errors about disc, only apps.

    Make sure your drivers are up to date. pay attention to the graphic card driver and the intel RST driver. these are the two drivers mostly involved in slow boot problems.

    As last resort, record a boot trace using Windows Performance Toolkit and upload the result for a deep analysis.
    Here is a tutorial

    interesting ! there is a delay of 25 minutes in the winlogon phase !
    and during this long wait the disk usage is very high !!

    can you compress the ETL file and upload it so that we can analyze it?
    you can use wetransfer or google drive for the share.
