Running Chkdsk on a Bitlocker system drive

Is it possible to run chkdsk on a Bitlocker drive?

I would like to run chkdsk but as this is the system disk when it reboots will it be able to process if the drive is bitlockered?

Would I first have to decrypt?

Chkdsk with Bitlocker is fine. No need to decrypt. Just did this on my bitlocker encrypted C: drive a few days ago.

So the encryption key survives the boot?

Did you suspend Bitlocker, just asking?

If chkdsk doesn't find anything I was going to run a repair install. For that process the tutorial says suspend or shut off. Being a Bitlocker user have you done a repair install and if you did a repair install did you just suspend or did you shut off?

I did run sfc /scan now and it found and repaired corrupt files. Ran again and all clean.

    Thanks again

Also there's a way to suspend bitlocker for a specific number of reboots (default = 1). If you check the man page for the bitlocker commands it's in there somewhere. Ah yes, it's called "suspend-bitlocker" -- check this out: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/pow...?view=win10-ps

    Thanks Ed.

If I don't have to suspend I won't but I know for repair install I must.

I think for a repair install I would "zero" as Im not exactly sure how many reboots it would do and zero seems to just permanent suspend it.

Have you run chkdsk on bitlocker drive?

I just tried it on a second machine. So now, 1 laptop and 1 desktop. Both worked flawlessly.

    Very cool.

    Appreciate the extra effort.

Just completed a Macrium and tested boot key.

    Now to take the plunge.

Chkdsk ran, now I'll try Repair Install.

This thread is closed, you can run chkdsk on on Bitlockered drive.

    Thanks
