HD Life And Sleep Mode Question ? And Re-Starting Question.

    Hello,

    Happy Holidays.

Regarding Sleep Mode, which I've read also turns off the spinning
of the HD on my W10 Desktop:

Is there any evidence, or studies, that show that the lifetime of the HD
would actually be increased if Sleep Mode is used ?

Was wondering if the (not good) starting and stopping the spinning of the HD wipes
out any possible beneficial HD life ?

    Thoughts ?

BTW: Let me ask this also, please:

Had a devil of a time getting my W10 pc going again after sleep mode.
Is there some magical key combination that is always pretty much guaranteed to get everything going again ?
(Keyboard and Mouse are both enabled in Device Manage to allow re-starting)

    Regards, stay well,
    Bob

Hello Robert11 and Happy Holidays to you as well ,

I have a SSD and HDD in several PCs and sleep them within 30 minutes of non-use to save power. Haven't had issues after years of doing this.

Provide more details about your sleep/wake up issue. I can wake mine up by touching any key on my keyboard on moving the wired mouse on desktop.

On laptop I just tap the power button to wake it up. I forget if the keyboard or touchpad will also wake it up.

    From OP:

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for thoughts on this.

Have always used sleep mode, but as I wrote, would not wake up.
Tried about every key combination on keyboard, and also with Mouse.
    Nothing worked.

After about 20 minutes of additional trying, finally it woke up.

    Hope it's a one-off glitch.

Anyway, will ry setting it up for sleep mode
    again, and see what happens.

I'm not too concerned about saving power.
My main objective would be in prolonging the HD life.
Starting and stopping can't be doing it any good ?

    Will try again.

    Happy New Year, stay ell,
    Bob
